Atlassian Enables Default Data Collection to Train AI

Atlassian will begin collecting customer metadata and in-app content from **Jira**, **Confluence**, and other cloud products by default on **August 17, 2026**, to train its AI offerings including `Rovo` and `Rovo Dev`. The change affects roughly **300,000** customers; metadata collection is mandatory for Free, Standard, and Premium tiers and cannot be opted out on those plans. Enterprise customers can opt out of metadata and in-app collection by default. Collected data will be retained up to **seven years**, with in-app data removed within 30 days after deletion or opt-out and models retrained within 90 days. Customers using customer-managed keys, Atlassian Government Cloud, Isolated Cloud, or with HIPAA requirements are excluded from collection.

Prepare for AI and Rovo access before its rollout
Hi Christina Pollock,
We are excited to announce that AI and Rovo will soon be available for your existing apps on Standard plans. This will roll out in two phases.
Phase 1 – access to AI features:
Some AI features will be turned on for your Standard apps (including active trials) over several weeks. You'll receive an email notification once AI is activated in your Standard Cloud plan or trial.
If your organization is not ready for AI, you can opt out in advance by completing this form by June 30, 2025. Please note that this opt‑out option only applies to AI features for apps on Standard plans created before July 1, 2025, and does not apply to apps added after this date.
Once AI has been activated on your existing plans, any new apps on Standard, Premium, and Enterprise plans added to your organization will have AI enabled by default. Organization admins can later adjust their AI settings at any time.
If you already have any apps on Premium or Enterprise plans, your existing AI activation settings for those plans will not be affected.
