A stone slab carved with daggers and triangular axe-heads

Found in a burial mound somewhere near Badbury Rings hillfort #Dorset in 1845

The only similar Early Bronze Age carvings in Britain come from the sarsens of Stonehenge

#StandingStoneSunday West Kennet Long Barrow is over 5500 years old. Massive sarsens were added around 4000 years ago to close the entrance. 📷 mine from February 2024

We don't have jackdaws on this side of the pond. I watched them building nests in holes and crevices in the sarsens at Stonehenge.

Here it is, the sarsen standing stone at
Saint Augustine’s Abbey, Canterbury, I’m here now! Much bigger than I was expecting and a beautiful red colour one side. Possibly used by the saint himself as a preaching cross and possibly prehistoric. I think I found the other two sarsens too. More 🧵

The Polisher stone or Polissoir at Fyfield down fifty metres off the Ridgeway path near Avebury,Neolithic site with sarsens stones and this one was used as stone Axe polisher approximately six thousand years ago. You can feel the past in its smooth glass like marks and bowl.
