A good reminder that while Metal Gear Rising was incredibly loud and completely devoid of subtlety, people mistook that for being dumb.
It is not. It's one of the most clear-eyed and pointed political satires AND most plausible takes on cyberpunk around.

"A satire about the didacticism of contemporary satires" is quite a movie to make during an era when satires are rarely financed or made in any art form because corporations stifle them.
Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s DIGGER is BARDO blended with BIRDMAN, a satire about the didacticism of contemporary satires.
It doesn’t work and Tom Cruise is adrift. “It’s instead a sneering premise awaiting a drop of humanism.”

I’d argue most satires of the national security state. Doctor Strangelove, Burn After Reading, things of that nature.

The Boys is one of the best and most brutal satires of Trump and MAGA America. Idiocracy with entrails. One of the few TV shows that gets to grip with the moment.

It would one of the most on the nose satires of modern culture if not for the fact that it's meant entirely without irony

I still think of Ready Player One as a devastating takedown of the way our culture worships brands and corporate IPs that are recycled from Boomers and Gen X with no room for new ideas, fatally undermined by the fact that the author thinks it would be cool.

Im a bit cynical when men who don't have innate knowledge of the romantasy genre make satires of it. Its usually very obvious that they don't actually read the genre, and the "critique" is always directed at women, rather than the orientalism, misogyny and homophobia prevalent in many of these books
