"Screenplays written for middle schoolers" is both savage and dead on

Accidentally stumbled into the "screenplays by total shitheads" section of the bookstore 🫤

Windowpane prose to reach a ~wider readership~

Please use adverbs and semicolons and ten-dollar vocab words. Please make your prose prettier. Please play with sentence structure and POV and narration. I want fewer novels that read like screenplays written for middleschoolers.
What’s a storytelling convention you wish more writers would challenge? Kill your darlings—that one #writingq #WritingCommunity

Some interesting news: a short horror screenplay I’ve penned has made it to “finalist” but then lost. Also, it lost to… another one of my horror short screenplays, which won! 🏆

We looked at how 22 bloody horror scenes were described in their screenplays. Movies’ most macabre moments are often surprisingly flowery on the page.

A lot of my student screenplays were when I was really unwell and some of them are absolutely wild 😂

To the person sending random segments of screenplays into my strawpage... why?

"The novels follow Cammie Skoura, a brilliant, neurodivergent young scientist aboard a deep-space expedition that uncovers a trail of ancient ruins and long-dead alien civilizations leading toward a mind-shattering discovery."

Jonathan Wakeham (To Catch a Killer) will adapt the screenplays.

I vacuumed today and took a lot of spiders by surprise. They’ll be writing screenplays about this for years

I wrote the role of THE PRIEST from TOOTH AND CLAW for Michael Shannon.

“I wasn’t particularly familiar with Mr. Fielder’s work but I wanted to be helpful. I tentatively agreed to appear on camera.” Why would you agree without researching the filmmaker?

“I haven’t worked on staff at the paper since 2022. I live in Los Angeles and write screenplays now.“

Oh, that’s why

There are at least half a dozen Pinkwater books worthy of adapted screenplays.

His fat space pirates (that look exactly like him) would make great cartoons too.

Ok. Alright. Plotting next year:

4 #screenplays: outline one, edit one, rewrite a third, and revisit a fourth.

Submit one (or two) to AFF and attend to learn and connect. Hoping to have good time there.

If you've ever written a screenplay, you're on the right track! If not, you can check out some screenplays that are available online, but you can also track down some scripts of old time radio plays from the 1930s and 1940s to see how they're structured. Really helps.

Yes, I never thought about their writing appealing to my fussy side but of course that’s true.
Cliché but it’s Swiss clock precision in nearly all their screenplays.
