I recall a long time ago some tech CEO trusted the company he started (who offered security for credit cards) so much that he put his credit card data online and dared hackers to go after him.

Feds used a piece of tech that simulates a cell tower so all the phones in an area will connect to it so they can find someone working on journalism.

Other countries have cut down national security signals intelligence programs just at the risk it might collect journalists' communications!
US law enforcement agents obtained authorization to use a controversial cell phone surveillance device to find and arrest a college student who helped produce journalist Don Lemon’s coverage of an anti-ICE protest, court filings show.
Feds Got Warrants to Use Fake Cell Towers to Hunt Down Don Lemon’s Producer
Investigators also sought permission to use an invasive surveillance tool called a cell-site simulators against journalist Georgia Fort and a Minnesota state Senate candidate.

One of the things I’m thinking about producing is a set of Creative Commons licensed sample tech and security policies for newsrooms. Impactful for tech companies? Not at all. But for some newsrooms it could be really meaningful.

The other thing they need to do is pull his security clearance and that of a targeted list of his associates.

A lot of folks on here (I think @mikeblack114.bsky.social is one) propose putting all these defense tech CEOs on regular drug testing regimes but for Elon I think we just skip that part.

Lack of resilience is a practical reason why a handful of Broligarchs put a society at risk.

Breaking up Big Tech in 2029 is a national security priority.
1/ Restoring Yandex's damaged data centres will take at least six months and cost billions. Disruption is already severe; Russian manufacturers and distributors face imminent disaster due to Ukraine's strikes causing the collapse of the state-operated goods tracking system. ⬇️

Right? If I'm relatively tech savvy and careful to avoid spoofs and the company I'm working with has a security on their end - how am I supposed to stop it? And how is the ordinary, non-tech savvy person who's vulnerable to fraud supposed to avoid it? Particularly when govt refuses to regulate tech?

It is funny to me, and wildly hypocritical, that Ro Khanna still maintains support from the left wing as someone authentically left. The same people who attacked Biden for votes from the 1980s conveniently forget that Ro Khanna ran in 2014 as a social security cutting tech bro.

US is a truly rogue state and it is a national security risk for UK government to continue using US software like Microsoft. We need a plan to dump US tech.
🚨 Just in: The US has sanctioned the ICC.

"We will ban transactions with this rogue court, cutting off their resources and crippling its ability to operate," Marco Rubio said in a statement.
EXCLUSIVE: US imposes sanctions on ICC hours after former judge wins Nobel Peace Prize
The Trump administration has long been hostile to the court and has previously imposed sanctions on its prosecutors and judges.
