The ACA made my whole self-employed life possible. For almost ten years, I was able to build a career that actually worked for me AND keep receiving necessary care to address the consequences of childhood medical neglect. And I still deserved better. We all do.

In 1 year, there were ~393k arrests,~350k deportations & 1.9M self-deportations.
In detention centers, there have been dozens of deaths, reports of torture, abuse & medical neglect of even children & babies.

People don't understand: being kind & fair to yourself is in no way the "easy" path, not when you've been conditioned by abuse & neglect to shame, blame, & beat the sh*t out of yourself.

additionally: while the "hyper self-reliance" adaptation from childhood neglect leaves me with the crippling "inability to ask for help" debuff, i must say that the "insistence on taking initiative" buff is a real boon for the aim of Getting Shit Done. fantastic min-max trade off in the current meta

There’s an idea that when someone dies before retirement age from a health issue, they must’ve neglected their health, so “everyone get checked.” I want to gently push back on the idea of it being all self-neglect & remind 1) some illnesses are incurable 2) bigoted healthcare system is shit 3) cost.
