lolol idk how I never realized that's what serde stands for
serde stands for Serialize/Deserialize. serde-json lets us easily encode and decode to the json format, but we can choose other formats. E.g., in the iroh-gossip example, we use postcard.

Serde fixes a bug and as a result my code now has a bug. I'm basically this XKCD today. (I'm basically doing undocumented stuff with serde, but limitations don't give me reasonable alternatives. github.com/mitsuhiko/mi...)

Thanks to a couple of community contributors, kdl-rs will soon have proper serde support, with the ability to remap things you want into vecs/fields/etc as you want! It's very similar to how quick_xml does things, if you're familiar with that.

TIL the serde docs call out postcard by name, as an example of a non-self-describing format that will have problems if you use `deserialize_any`, which serde_derive will do when using attrs like `#[serde(tag = ...)]`.
