He rode to her, A thousand miles Wrapped up in Heavy armour, A crippling weight, That metal suit Bore down upon His horse, Yet on he pushed, Past field and stream They rode a Thousand more. So gallantly He trampled through The carrots and Potatoes The villagers And towns they fed Left basking in His glow. He rode to her, Two thousand miles, The maiden he Was seeking And freed her from The tower top, More weight upon his horse. He took the girl Who he would wed She sobbed (With tears of joy................) And locked her up So she'd be safe Two thousand Miles away.

The council of mycelium meet in the damp, dark, muddy folds of an underground root system. A vantage point from which they can grasp at those ancient lifelines that feed society. Sink their tendrils in and drink, sap away at the wealth that should supply the land. And once they've had their fill, Satisfied their boundless appetite, they leave the final dribble, just enough to keep the farm alive, and generating more. One mind, one body, The council; greedy, caters Only for itself.

The heat of noon came whomping down Upon a blad and bilger day The sun, though wearing nargish frown Beat down its glaring matinee. Then, from between the Kangee trees That tangled through The Halgar Wood Came swiftly out, with graceful gleese A shadow, clothed in cape and hood. With such resuberent speed he flew, Behind him with belliforous roar Burst through the trees and into view The malovous Gorvaldosaur. No blade could slay this baleful beast No spell hurt its amitic soul One snap of its proportic beak And shadowed man was swallowed whole Gorvaldosaur, with shining scales All pingling in the mid day sun Raised up its head, in woesome wails By pain, its body overcome. A smear of red, a smurt of blood Where from its throat a blade emerged Neck sliced in two, so straight and true The beast's belliforous cries subsurged, And out he stepped, from gaipsing hole The shadowed figure, face unflained: Let ring victorious requiole "Gorvaldasaur, I've seen you slain!" His sword he shinked, and sprinkled blood Across the buffled quilt of grass Then billowed off, with cape and hood His target next; the Borovass. The heat of noon came whomping down And warmed a blad and bilger day The Halgar trees gave no more sound To noonsun's glaring matinee.

All aquiver was the grass A warm and wimber summer's day As tiny legs marched through on mass A mesmerising bug ballet They thundered through the clover patch Knees up to chins, each step in time And wove between the krangled thatch Of thorns, not once breaking their line. Aswift between the greens they ran At quite the raucadacious pace Around in each which way they span Both widdershins and clockwise faced And all who look upon their shapes And all who see their wazey dance Forever trapped, can not escape Within a quibbling, itchy trance Beware the Antom's vile tricks Don't look into the fwills they make Else; hypnotised, you'll feel the itch Their Phantom feet across your face And trapped beneath their wicked spell To watch, helplessly as they take Every sweet or treat they smell, From battenburg to Birthday cake And soon enough, the picnic's gone, No signs the fwills had ever been Though Antom; never round for long, Still linger decades on the skin.

Working on this anthology has been a blast! The "SpecPoetry" and related communities are just as supportive as the rag-tag tribe of GWOT "war writers" with whom I usually hang!

The author credited as "High Meadow Grandmother" is not an individual in the sense that we consider independent thinking people, and though "Grandmother" is a feminine appellation, there is no reason to suggest that the author is of any gender in the way we can concieve of one.
