"Transition" has a very specific meaning in special education. Basically, for students who graduate high school with a modified degree, this provides coaching and training services for these students until the age of 21.

This is everything! I couldn't agree more! It is so important to build rapport and really get to know our students. It is one of the best ways to build trust. Once you build trust they will buy in and do more to work hard and perform in class. They then want to make you proud too. #TeacherEd#SpedEd

Truth be told, schools fulfilled its obligation to SpedEd students and their parents with the IEPs and accommodations during K through 12. After graduation, the students are considered adults and the recommendations on the transition plan are just that…recommendations. It’s up to kids and parents.

I could image that there might be a SpedEd class where they use it regularly but for reasons not associated w/furries.

I agree with these points you make. I find that offering more time to complete assignments goes a long way. Students are appreciative and get it done. It makes the parents happy as well so it is truly a win win situation. Providing clear examples of success is also super helpful #TeacherEd#SpedEd

I agree! It can be a daily challenge trying to balance the different needs It sounds like you have some great things taking place in your classroom that really connects with your students. I think visuals are one of the best things we can use. #TeacherEd#SpedEd

#A5 along with the policies I believe that schools can take more of a student-first approach. Meaning that each child’s uniqueness is considered before blanket policies or consequences are enforced. #TeacherEd #SpedEd
