Another miserable jobs report. Only 22,000 jobs added, well below expectations of 75,000. Unemployment rate rises to 4.3%.

Hope Trump’s new BLS statistician didn’t get too comfortable.

The guy who claims he has a 90% approval rating fired the government statistician who keeps employment numbers because he doesn’t agree that her numbers are honest.

I’m really shocked because I thought Trump was going to take responsibility for the terrible jobs numbers. Hard to believe he would blame the statistician.

Now I’m no statistician: but is a 10 for 300,000 a good conviction rate or even evidence of a trend for that matter?

Would batting a 0.00003 be considered a good average?

Statistician wonders why everybody can't be above average
Nate Silver: [Yudkowsky says] "we need a world where everyone has 150 IQ" & unfortunately we're in this world of 100 IQs, & so we're probably gonna destroy ourselves b/c we can create this technology, like, nuclear weapons or LLMs, but we aren't smart enough to know how to control them (2/3)

Damn, every statistician in Washington is going to be fired and replaced by RFK Jr after this.

As a statistician, I have only ever heard non-statisticians use the phrase “data driven”.
It's important to know that when tech bros say they are "data driven" what they mean by "data" is their own experience and the assumptions.

This is why you regularly hear things like "UBI will destroy society" and "if you give away housing no one will work" despite all studies showing the contrary.

Good data is essential for policy. Today it’s been a year since we had a permanent National Statistician. No news on what is happening with the current recruitment which began Oct 2025.

This is an under the bonnet issue that points to state failure 🧵

Like firing the Labor statistician makes the jobs numbers better?
August 2, 2025 at 6:58 PM
He lost an election and refused to accept the results.

He forced the Smithsonian to lie about American history.

He fired the head statistician bcuz he didn’t like the jobs numbers.

He can’t handle the truth. We elected the biggest pussy/coward/sore loser in all of human history.

Did you hear that joke about the statistician?

Probably…

I’m no statistician, but if you buy your first house in your 30s on a 50-year mortgage, and life expectancy is low 80s, isn’t this just called — rent?
Do the math. It don’t add up

Any statistician worth their salt will also tell you not to draw sweeping conclusions from data.
not for nothing but blindly trusting statistical analysis from nearly anywhere right now, especially the federal government, is foolish at best, if not intentionally disingenuous

Friday night Tequila tweet: Fuck the only candidate for president in American history who lost an election and refused to concede. And fuck the only president in American history who fired a statistician bcuz he didn’t like the jobs numbers.

He’s the biggest sore loser in human history. Fuck him.

Firing a labor statistician for giving a weak jobs report is like firing your cardiologist because you have high cholesterol.

The guy who claims that Qatar gave us $1.2 trillion and Japan gave us $550 billion and the EU is giving us $700 billion as part of his “trade deals” fired the government statistician who reports employment numbers because he didn’t agree with them.
August 1, 2025 at 11:02 PM
Nate Silver understands statistics less than any allegedly professional statistician i have ever seen
this is a discourse generator today but the funny part to me is just that he has the 2.5% number wrong (it's 3% quarterly year-on-year and 2.9% comparing 2022 to 2023). Idk where he got this number from but bad that he is not checking easily available public information.
