this reminds me of the absolutely insane story I was reading about how the 3 spined sticklebacks in lake washington started losing their spines in the 70s because the water was so murky they didnt need the defense and now that its cleared up they are growing spines again, evolved twice in 50 years

Not only do I approve of British animals on banknotes, I think we should replace every statue in the land with representations of wise badgers, angry sticklebacks, amusing frogs etc, it would be LOVELY.

Stumbled across two slow worms today in Devon - one tiddler and one impressively lithe long one. Slow worms are amongst my favourite natives, ranking alongside newts, toads, frogs, adders, grass snakes, smooth snakes, lizards and sticklebacks.
