#stigma-free
Great bipartisan legislation idea for the new congress:

Pass universal free breakfast and lunch in public schools.

It would cost less than one percent of what the federal government spends on education.

No hungry kids. No stigma. Higher morale. Better grades.

It's a no-brainer.

@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social has a lot of great ideas for programs to make NYC affordable for everyone.

He should add a free N95 mask program.

N95s improve public health by protecting people from airborne viruses & wildfire smoke, & providing them for free increases their use and decreases stigma.

DID YOU KNOW?

5 years ago, @governor.ca.gov Gavin Newsom signed the Free School Meals for All Act — making California the FIRST state in the nation to guarantee free breakfast and lunch to EVERY public school student.

Today, 5.8+ million kids eat at school for free. No cost, no stigma!

Minnesota kids get the fuel they need to learn and grow and without stigma of free meals being for the poor kids. They grow up into healthy adults who take care of each other. Everyone wins.
Schools across the state started offering free breakfasts and lunches to all students in the fall of 2023.

The number of students eating school lunch went up 15 percent the first year. The number of kids eating breakfast at school went up 40 percent.
Fewer skipped meals, less stigma: New data on the impact of Minnesota’s universal school meals
A trio of new studies shows Minnesota’s universal school meals program is providing a sense of relief to Minnesota families and students who are no longer skipping lunch and worrying less about family...

Today is Intersex Day of Solidarity and Remembrance.

It's an opportunity to highlight the continued struggles faced by intersex people globally, from unnecessary medical intervention or stigma.

We all deserve to be treated with dignity, and live a life free from discrimination.

Well y'all saved $3 million in the city budget forcing kids to face the stigma of proving they're low enough income to qualify for a free lunch. Congrats.
By a 6-3 vote, the Seattle City Council just voted to reject Mayor Katie Wilson's universal free school meals plan.

The Councilmembers who voted yes (against the plan): Hollingsworth, Foster, Rivera, Kettle, Strauss, Juarez. Rinck, Lin, and Saka voted for the plan.

A dark, sad day for our kids.

I ranted about this on twitter once and got people really mad at me but glasses are an accessibility device! Poor vision disables you! We’ve just made it almost stigma free to have poor vision and wear glasses and contacts

It was almost ridiculously easy, D.J. And, most importantly, it was free of any kind of stigma.

so yeah it's complex. healthcare needs to include:
-free physical care w/out fear of arrest
-access to safer ways to use
-access to free/nonjudgmental mental healthcare and addiction healthcare (i.e, NOT NA)
-less stigma around everyday people carrying narcan
-decriminalization
-post-crisis care

The Right wing hates the idea of universal programs--from free school lunches to free healthcare to free tampons--because making support universal and easily accessible eliminates the stigma they use to vilify the people they want to exploit.

Dersh has been banging this drum since Trump1 & the really good news is: ostracism works, even on the shameless.

Tons of people miss this--the shameless are hyper-sensitive to stigma.

Civil society should use this free, non-violent tool to punish destructive people a lot more often. It works.
Dershowitz says he’s suing the Martha’s Vineyard Farmer’s Market after the pierogi guy refused to sell to him yesterday because he defends Trump. He complains that he’s also banned from the MV book fair, library, synagogue, and can’t get invited to any parties.

there needs to be a stigma-free way to get adults to work on the reading skills they should have been taught from 7th~12th grade

roblox isnt a game, its an entire walled-off platform, its social media and free gaming in one, it's impenetrable. and there's no "you'll grow out of it" stigma if it's all you've known, and the content creators you watch playing it are now in their 20s and 30s.

We need to have FREE basic dental care INCLUDING decent dentures. Not only is this *easier* to solve than “remove the stigma”, having it be free *will* remove the stigma, as having bad/no teeth will NOT be the easiest marker of poverty.

Actually giving everyone learning accommodations would remove both the burden and the stigma of seeking them from anyone who needs them, and would be a big positive step in education policy, just like free school lunch helps all kids and all their families. Gatekeeping hurts everyone.
Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

10k followers, quite surreal! Happy y'all like my posts!

Just thought I'd ruin it for some with a few statements.

This is not a space for transphobia, (sexual) racism, fatphobia, or stigma around HIV.
Respect people's pronouns, be kind to each other.

Otherwise go to X.
