'Stomata' - ideale titel voor de tentoonstelling waarmee Ine Poppe afrekent met het stigma van haar stoma.
Poppe op haar best, met tekeningen, keramiek, table top, fotografie en een stormachtige graphc novel.

I'm not gonna believe that. Those stomata-eyed maniacs aren't going far with the whole 'genital exam' business.

Along with nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), potassium (K) is one of the three major nutrients that #plants require in large quantities. Potassium is essential to stomata control in plants and is also essential for #muscles contraction in humans. 98% of Americans are #deficient.

The journey of water 🌱

1. Root hairs: Water enters by osmosis
2. Across the root: Through the cortex to the xylem
3. Up the xylem: A continuous column, pulled from above
4. Out of the leaf: Evaporates and exits through stomata

Circadian biology rules plant metabolism. Stomata open, transpire, and synthesize specialized enzymes based on solar frequency transitions. Human biology operates on identical photon-driven biological clocks.

Yeah there is a classification system for bHLH that I can never remember. For example PIFs are in a different clade than to MYCs. MYC2/3/4 are next door to the GL3/EGL3/TT8 clade. MYC1 is closer to GL3 than to MYC2. I forgot where are the stomata bHLHs are relative to the above mentioned ones.

🔬 Meet our September Foldscoper of the Month, Dr. John Burns!

An evolutionary cell biologist and Senior Research Scientist at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, he used his Foldscope to discover stomata on an aquatic plant! 🌿 He also captured filamentous algae from a pond in Boothbay, Maine.

Coordinated leaf anatomy buffers the effects of reduced stomatal density on CO2 diffusion
Stomata are microscopic pores on the leaf surface that regulate the exchange of carbon dioxide (CO2) and water vapor (H2O) between leaves and the atmospher

Even After 20 Million Years, It's Never Been Harder to Be the World's Tallest Tree
Here’s what you’ll learn when you read this story: Coast redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens) are the largest trees in the world and exist only in a specific stretch of coastal habitat in northern California and southern Oregon. A new study finds that rising temperatures in the area could negatively impact the trees’ ability to perform evapotranspiration, a process where a leaf’s mouth-like pore, called a stomata, releases moisture to cool down. By analyzing leaf physiological data, gathered monthly across a two-year period, scientists found that under extreme heat, leaves could be nearly 20 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the surrounding air temperature due to the breakdown of this crucial biological process. Millions of years before some distant ancestor of Homo sapiens split off from gibbons, the coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) emerged from the mists of evolution. For millions of years, this mighty tree, the tallest in our planet’s history, spread across the northern hemisphere. But eventually, cyclic climatic changes forced it to retreat to the foggy banks of the northern California and southern Oregon coasts. Then humans—that restless ape lineage, now walking upright and wielding saws—pushed this incredible plant to the very brink, leaving only 5 percent of its natural range intact...
