Active Treatment: For patients who already have active pneumonic plague, guidelines generally favor first-line intravenous (IV) antibiotics such as gentamicin, streptomycin, or fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin or levofloxacin).

Well streptomycin but yeah

ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, gentamicin, and streptomycin. All options. It’s almost like they didn’t ALLOW them to get treatment.

Waverly Hills opened in 1910 as a small wooden tuberculosis hospital. The five-story building opened on October 17, 1926 and closed as a TB hospital in June 1961, after streptomycin made long sanatorium stays unnecessary.

"Doctors can treat plague with at least 10 to 14 days of antibiotics. Most commonly they use ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, gentamicin, and streptomycin.

Patients that get antibiotics within the first 24 hours of infection have the best chance of surviving."

The Yersinia Pestis bacterium has been around for thousands of years; current scientific research managed to confirm the oldest known infections of the bacterium over 5500 years ago

The 1st cure for plague was the antibiotic Streptomycin (discovered in the 1940s), these days doctors use Gentamicin

Civilization has had a cure for pneumonic plague for 78 years, since the discovery of streptomycin in 1948, yet Russia is still researching it? Something doesn't quite add up.
I bet they are. That was probably the batch Putin was supposed to send with spies to release in major U.S. cities 2 weeks before the election so Trump could declare a national emergency and shut down elections.

Wait, did I post that or just think it?

I’m sure this is absolutely fine. Absolutely fine…. Nothing to worry about at all…

US 'closely monitoring' after Russian laboratory worker 'dies of suspected pneumonic plague'
Quarantine measures have been put in place after a female researcher at an anti-plague institute died of "pneumonia of unknown" origin. Russian authorities have not confirmed her exact cause of death.

Treatment
• Urgency: Must be treated with specific antibiotics (such as streptomycin, gentamicin, doxycycline, or ciprofloxacin) within 24 hours of first symptoms to prevent death

Streptomycin. I know, I'm allergic to it. But most people aren't.

They'd even give it to me, though, if the alternative was Plague.

The treatment for neumonic plague is a series of antibiotics that must be administered immediately after diagnosis.

"First-line IV or oral drugs: Fluoroquinolones like ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin, or aminoglycosides like gentamicin and streptomycin."

Does Russia not have these medications?

Yeah, streptomycin works great unless some genius with CRISPR
and modifies the little buggers.
October 5, 2026 at 2:00 PM
Forgot to add streptomycin to the list (though this isn't widely available in the U.S., and one has to watch for rpsL resistance mutations).

Meh. Not having the same issues with rodents and fleas as they had in the 14th century it’s not quite so serious. Also, streptomycin works well on Yersinia Pestis. There’s been an outbreak in Madagascar for several years and nobody is stopping flights from there.

October 5, 1920. Biochemist Elizabeth Bugie Gregory is born. Along with Selman Waksman and Albert Schatz, she identified streptomycin, the first effective antibiotic against tuberculosis.

1943, with the isolation of Streptomycin. Plus there are various other antibiotics that work well.
Plus it kills people too fast to be a consistent carrier. (It was the pneumonic plague)
October 5, 2026 at 11:39 AM
Treatment isn't difficult.
With strict respiratory isolation the first 48 hrs:
Fluoroquinolone + Aminoglycosideis. A combination of: Ciprofloxacin Gentamicin and Streptomycin
Alternative fluoroquinolones:
Levofloxacin, Moxifloxacin

In bioterrorism scenarios: Levofloxacin and moxifloxacin

Load up people!
For pneumonic plague treatment should start immediately. CDC guidance lists these as first-line options:
* Ciprofloxacin — IV or oral
* Levofloxacin — IV or oral
* Moxifloxacin — IV or oral
* Streptomycin — IV or IM, where available.
*Treatment generally lasts 10–14 days.
Pneumonic plague is especially serious because it’s transmissible human-human through breathing, and 100% fatal without anti-biotics in the first 24 hrs.
🤯 Russian officials and state media are refusing to publicly name pneumonic plague following the death of a 28-year-old anti-plague lab technician in Siberia.
