Cornell's push into SynBio with bacteria highlights the shift from proof-of-concept to scalable solutions. Bacterial systems, like Pseudomonas putida for biodegrading plastics, show real-world applicability if engineered and scaled correctly. Watch how academic-industrial partnerships evolve this…

IMHO the next SynBio wave will not be about engineering individual, super-heroic bacteria able to do all types of things. The challenge will be to engineering functions that emerge from interactions among bacteria. But we need new tools for this eg 👉🏻 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Engineering crop disease resistance to overcome the growth-defence trade-off
Developing crops that are both productive and resillient is one of the major challenges facing agriculture. While disease-resistance genes can protect plants from devastating pathogens, they often come with a hidden cost: reduced growth and lower yields. This PhD will investigate whether engineering biology can overcome this trade-off by precisely controlling when and where resistance genes are expressed.

🧠 using genetic recorders to capture past signals and cell history
↔️ enabling flexible and dynamic control of root development
Engineering root development with high precision
Conceptual framework for precise engineering of root development.
