1950’s sugar rationing policies reduced risks of hypertension and diabetes

“Early-life exposure to low sugar during rationing reduced the risk of hypertension and T2DM by 20% & 35%, respectively. The onset period for the diseases was reduced by about 2 years for hypertension & 4 years for T2DM”
1950’s sugar rationing policies reduced risks of hypertension and diabetes
The study links early-life sugar exposure to chronic disease risk, suggesting that sugar restriction could enhance health and reduce diabetes and hypertension.

In 10 years, the prevalence of T2DM increased in younger (7.8% vs. 4.5%, p < 0.0001) and older individuals (34% vs. 28.4%, p < 0.0001).
In 10 yrs, incidence of T2DM increased by 120% & 150% in the younger & older individuals, respectively.

UCP2 inhibition significantly reduces β-cell autoinflammation in T2DM. Research shows STING levels rising in T2DM β-cells and IL-1β driving inflammation. PMID:40707441, Nat Commun 2025, @NatureComms https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-025-61883-y #Medsky #Pharmsky #RNA #ASHG #ESHG 🧪
UCP2 inhibition eliminates pancreatic β cell autoinflammation in T2DM with islet-mitochondrial sequential targeting nanomedicines | Nature Communications
Pancreatic β-cell dysfunction and mass loss are core pathologies of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), which are closely related to intense autoinflammation. However, the molecular mechanisms regulating β-cell autoinflammation remain unclear. Here, we show that STING is significantly elevated in T2DM β cells. We also clarify the key role of uncoupling protein 2 (UCP2), and reveal that interleukin-1β (IL-1β) drives β cells to produce autoinflammation through the UCP2/mtDNA/STING axis in T2DM. To inhibit UCP2 activity in vivo, we design a tailored nanomedicine, Mito-G, with sequential targeting from islets to β-cell mitochondria. Mito-G is a negatively charged ultra-small nanomedicine synthesized by polymerization of genipin (a potent UCP2 inhibitor) and glycine. It can specifically reach β cells and have a natural mitochondrial targeting. In this work, Mito-G effectively eliminates β-cell auto-inflammation by specifically inhibiting β-cell UCP2 activity in vivo, providing a paradigm for t

Among 15 million people, Covid vaccination linked to a marked reduction of Type 2 diabetes. Once T2D was manifest, it was durable in >70% https://medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.08.07.23293778v1

on one of my rotations I saw a case where AI had hallucinated a T2DM diagnosis into a patient’s past medical history in a note and everyone was afraid to correct it
a few months ago I said "having generative AI handle absolutely anything with regards to healthcare is a nightmare and should be banned" and a bunch of people made fun of me and called me stupid. anyways,

Fancy cardio subspecialty attending was using an AI tool last summer and it completely hallucinated a T2DM diagnosis for a patient and due to hospital politics all the notes from then on said "and an apparent history of T2DM" because nobody was willing to just say, hey, no he doesn't.

Yep. He has this & uncontrolled T2DM. Spot on. A+ to this nurse.
He has frobtotemporal dementia FTD. It's same disease his father and grandfather died from. Highly genetic & very, very long time before it renders you uncommunicable. He's shown the signs for 20yrs

Doing it for T2DM is kind of silly. The trick, someone else pointed out, is that T1DM is an autoimmune disease. Vertex has 2 approaches.
1. inject into the liver and put on immunosuppressant
2. Encapsulate the cells so that immune cells can’t reach them but insulin had get out.
