I am a big fan of Canada's old Telidon system that was an advancement to Videotex services in the early 80s. It was the precursor to NAPLPS that was used across North America. Here is an uncommon Commodore 64 software title that decoded Telidon Videotex from the Manitoba Telephone System.

even in some early non-internet home systems you find this. the french Minitel system of course has elements of this, and the Telidon system in Canada was probably the biggest rollout of something even remotely like this

They were able to restore artworks that were created on the Telidon system, for a recent show at InterAccess here in Toronto.

I had a Telidon unit set up in my living room for a while, to get it talking to modern computers, it was a bit awe inspiring to have a thing that probably only exists in single-digit numbers.

Folks in Toronto- tomorrow is the opening of the Telidon show at Interaccess- it's been years in the making. Interaccess actually started in the 80s as an access centre for artists to work with Telidon. There will be an on-line component as well!
