conservatives get so scared when they hear about transgenic experiments imagine when they find out about transamination. or partial hydrogenation. they r Literally making the LIPIDS TRANS!!!!!!! the cis and trans face of the golgi body?????????????? THERE'S NO ESCAPE!!

And that was the last lab in CHEM 2021 - organic chem II

(My second attempt, after the disastrous winter of 2023, though TBF labs isn't what I struggled with then)

It was a reductive transamination, which is probably triply illegal in the US now

Photocatalytic deaminative amination! Take your (ideally, (hetero)benzylic; others are viable too) amine, and switch it for another amine. This could be so much fun in med chem. Doesn't tolerate a whole load of functional groups, but still a cool method #chemsky

We then found that SLC25A38 is vital for regulating vitamin B6 (pyridoxal phosphate) in the mitochondria. This vitamin is essential for several pathways, including one-carbon metabolism and amino acid transamination enzymes, which are disrupted in SLC25A38-null cells.

Would the glutamate not be recycled? Would be my first thought, maybe via a transamination reaction like with alpha keto-glu.
Just an idea.

The transaminase-ω-amidase pathway senses oxidative stress to control glutamine metabolism and α-ketoglutarate levels in endothelial cells - The EMBO Journal
Oxidative stress is a major driver of cardiovascular disease; however, the fast changes in cellular metabolism caused by short-lived reactive oxygen species (ROS) remain ill-defined. Here, we characterized changes in the endothelial cell metabolome in response to acute oxidative challenges and identified novel redox-sensitive metabolic enzymes. H2O2 selectively increased the amount of α-ketoglutaramate (αKGM), a largely uncharacterized metabolite produced by glutamine transamination and an unrecognized intermediate of endothelial glutamine catabolism. In addition, H2O2 impaired the catalytic activity of nitrilase-like 2 ω-amidase (NIT2), the enzyme that converts αKGM to α-ketoglutarate (αKG), by the reversible oxidation of specific cysteine residues. Moreover, a NIT2 gene variant exhibited decreased expression in humans and was associated with increased plasma αKGM concentration. Endothelial-specific knockout of NIT2 in mice increased cellular αK
