Looking for recommendations!

I am teaching a Horror and New Media course in the fall. It will cover a wide array of transmedial horror texts (film, television, video games, internet content, podcasts, etc.)

Comment any materials you think I should include in my curriculum 💜

So, I just gave a talk in a worldbuilding seminar on Tolkien - with Thomas Honegger, no less! - titled "the movies and the series".

And it ended up mostly as fan art/ fan fiction and its interaction with franchise & merchandise and transmedial storytelling... "Tolkien in the 21st Century?"🤩

Another reason I’ve never been worried about bad news for Touhou: ZUN’s already perfected the “transmedial series” formula, and creators have been increasingly getting better at replicating it: tons of characters and lore, kickass music, fun stories, and open fan content.

I finally have the argument for my Sense8 lecture. So many things to choose from, but I've decided to write it about how it was a perfect setup for a huge transmedial story - we got the locations, characters, stories, but Netflix pulled the plug - no expanded universe across platforms.

I’m Nickey (they/them), a former academic living in Reno. PhD in media studies and diss on transmedial expansion in digital and analog games. I adore JRPGs (playing Metaphor), genre and comedy television (rewatching Buffy), and recently I’ve been getting into tarot and trans writer Rachel Pollack.

My father was my Mentor and beacon. But there are also my spiritual fathers from cultural history. I owe a lot to them.

Kurt Schwitters, René Magritte, David Lynch.

Their transmedial play with reality&meaning, irony, meta-vision are highly transformative. Thank you all.
