After the #Romans arrived in #Britain, hare bones appear first start to appear in middens. After 410 AD, brown #hare populations fell dramatically suggesting they had been primarily kept and farmed rather than hunted as game animals.

Sunset along #HadriansWall 🌅
Built from AD 122, the #Wall and its #Vallum ran almost coast to coast. The Vallum — a deep ditch flanked by banks, 6m wide × 3m deep — marked Rome’s northern military frontier.
Over 1,900 years on, the line of empire still shapes the land.

🗓️ On 1 July, the Romans marked the anniversary of the Temple of #Felicitas, #goddess of prosperity, success & good fortune. Unlike Fortuna, Felicitas embodied only positive blessings & the flourishing of Rome.

Today is #InternationalDayOfPeace. Even when the #Romans believed themselves at peace, uprisings against them were common. According to #Tacitus, Calgacus denounced the Romans stating “They make a desert & call it peace.”

#Harry has returned to #Coria (Corbridge), a key #Roman supply base & crossroads just S of Hadrian’s Wall. Streets, granaries & workshops reveal how the frontier was organised & sustained. The #Corbridge Hoard, buried around AD 122, offers rare insight into Roman military life. 👀

#Eildon Hill North dusted with snow just days ago. The site of #Trimontium now quietly grazed by sheep —once home to a vast #Roman fort.
If you’ve walked the site recently, you may have noticed the interpretation boards gone…
Keep your eyes open — new ones are coming soon.
