Scientists have successfully used allele-specific CRISPR-Cas9 to remove the extra chromosome 21 in human trisomy 21 cells. This "trisomy rescue" reversed abnormal gene expression, even in non-dividing cells, offering new hope for future Down syndrome therapies pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39967679/

Down Syndrome is known as a "gray" diagnosis in support groups for termination for medical reasons. It's not a likely death sentence within weeks to months, like Trisomy 13 or Trisomy 18. But it does mean lifelong support, and parents don't know ahead of time how serious the complications will be.

Children (adults) with trisomy 21 are especially empathetic and openly show their affection. These are my beautiful experiences in this regard. 💗

I'm sorry that happened to you. I had Trisomy 18 Edwards Disease I aborted my son at 20 weeks he had no skull, an ultrasound and amniocentesis confirmed complications.
At all times my life, my dignity and my care was the priority of doctors and nurses🇦🇺

I'm glad the results didn't come back on my birthday yesterday. She was a baby girl and had trisomy 20. My fifth pregnancy loss. Processing this is harder than I thought it would be.

by complete coincidence I just listened to a podcast about Marthe Gautier and the discovery of trisomy - relegated to being 2nd author on the paper, the 1st being the guy who, on her request, only took the photographs to confirm the finding. Gautier left trisomy research after that

Cats apparently can’t have trisomy 19 because they only have 19 pairs of chromosomes… but they can have trisomy 21. On those extra chromosomes they don’t have. 🤦🏼♀️
