TBH, no politician should be able to
say what can or can not be done over something doctor's go to school for umpteen years, but their 6 week course taught them enough.
These state bans!
Ok, there's a blood test, Trisomy 18. It's not tested until 17-22 weeks.

I'm a bit conflicted on removing a whole extra chromosome but also... it's complicated. My kid has trisomy 13. Does the extra genetic material play a part in determining who they are, or is it only the cause of conditions that are barriers to how they want their life to be? I don't know.

Children (adults) with trisomy 21 are especially empathetic and openly show their affection. These are my beautiful experiences in this regard. 💗

Down Syndrome: Discovery and Debate

Down syndrome, or trisomy 21, was clinically described by John Langdon Down in 1866. In 1959, Jérôme Lejeune, Marthe Gautier and Raymond Turpin published the finding that the condition had a chromosomal basis, but historical credit remains contested—

Source: I found out at 20 weeks that my child had severe fetal abnormalities (misformed organs) and that it 'probably wasn't viable' but that the testing to confirm would take weeks and I had to have the D&C by 21 weeks or it gets complicated. Amnio confirmed trisomy so I went ahead

Dear Amanda,

I'm sorry that happened to you. I had Trisomy 18 Edwards Disease I aborted my son at 20 weeks he had no skull, an ultrasound and amniocentesis confirmed complications.

At all times my life, my dignity and my care was the priority of doctors and nurses🇦🇺

It should've been for you also.

Forever Trisomy 21

ugh

sadly, this is a GREAT idea

we live in utah, a state that made talking abt options for mid-term abortions impossible—i was blocked from pre-planning for potentially devastating news of a chromosomal trisomy that wld be 100% fatal, end-term (all was well)

bc we want EVERY option for our girls

Este análisis de la sensibilidad y especificidad de prueba prenatal no invasiva (NIPT) para trisomías habituales demuestra una menor sensibilidad en embarazos conseguidos por técnicas de reproducción asistida que en naturales:

Reading now and what a profoundly beautiful choice to add "of us." Leave it out, and people are left further away. Add it, and we are family:

"[...] because a single crease has a high incidence in those of us with a particular chromosomal anomaly known as trisomy 21"

I was out knocking doors last week, and I met the kindest family.

Joy and Eric invited me into their home to meet Cora, their daughter who is beating all the odds while living with a condition known as Trisomy 18.

That's not eugenics, that's progress

As a woman who terminated a pregnancy because of trisomy 2l I'm grateful there are now earlier blood tests available so women don't have to wait for second trimester amniocentesis

It's more than a slippery slope. It's a lubed-up slide designed to dispose of "expensive" and inconvenient people. Not that different from the targeted abortion policies led by the nordic countries that have all but eliminated disabilities like Trisomy-21. Eugenics.

Most animals, no, because chromosome number and function vary so widely between species. But I double checked (bad with genetics please excuse me) and yes, chromosome 22 in Chimps is homologous to chromosome 21 in humans, and a trisomy has similar effects as in humans... so chimps are an exception!
September 9, 2026 at 3:47 AM
Completely unrelated fact but apparently Chimpanzees can have down syndrome, since our chromosomal structures are analogous in some portions i believe... so they also can have a trisomy that makes them present with typical down syndrome features. There was a famous down syndrome chimp named Kanako.
