A TTC streetcar *looks* big, but its total space footprint in traffic replaces just 5 stopped cars or ~2 moving ones. A street car can be nearly empty and still be more efficient than cars.

It is important here to discuss the political context. Fare evasion is discussed at TTC as if the universe as we know it will end if it is not stamped out. There is a take no prisoners attitude among some pols and commissioners as if the entire TTC revenue shortfall could be recovered this way. (1)

It'd be a lot easier if by-law had any teeth. TPS will give special constable agreements to the TTC so they can harass people over fares, but by-law officers is a step too far?
