I am old enough to remember badly duplicated typescripts of syllabi handed out on the first day of my grad school classes, and we pored over them like scripture.
As a 3rd generation academic, my family has been teaching continuously since the 1950s and only the last 20 years involved Learning Management Systems. They’re by no means necessary to the project of learning, and if they demand surrendering autonomy to corporations then they should be discontinued.

If not for typescripts I probably wouldn’t have continued with web dev. Coming from game dev in c++ I found JavaScript DX unbearably bad without type info.

I was tempted to reproduce these as is because there‘s something these typescripts contain that’s lost when reset. We do include two in the back of the book

Great to hear Anna Groundwater extolling Dorothy Dunnett's historical novels- and naming Anselm Adornes as a key figure connecting Scotland to Europe and beyond. DD's archive in NLS deserves much greater recognition ( and use) as a serious academic resource.

Typescript itself is adding breaking changes without indicating it in versions. Can't imagine you could have more impact than that.

i genuinely didnt think anyone wouldve implemented intersection types in an actual language. ig ive never dug that deep into the depths of typescripts types. using them to model overloading is interesting though. even if union types seem like a much more useful thing for that to me?

Right, another key thing that historians do is working with important records that have not been digitized.
And the vast majority of the world’s records *have not been digitized* and thus do not exist in any format that LLMs/AI can work with.

Lovecraft's stories do not, for the most part, exist as a single discrete text. What we have are the original published stories that appeared in pulp magazines and amateur journals, some of his manuscripts and typescripts, copies made by other people, and magazines in which Lovecraft hand-corrected.

True confession: the only way I can work out the story order for one of my collections is to print the stories out really small, tape them into long typescripts, then rearrange them on the floor until length and beginnings and endings and so forth all flow nicely.
