Bluesky is a great site but you have to unlearn EVERYTHING Twitter has ever taught you to make it useable.

Repost yourself. Interact with others. Use tags. Use feeds. Be kind and find kindness. Comment away. It's really really freeing.

When it comes to research, there is no single tool or site that is as robustly useable as Google scholar is, and google scholar a) ain't as robustly useable as it could be and b) has started integrating LLM-based "AI" "summaries" into their search results, and i just HATE it.
one of the reasons that I warn researchers away from adapting commercial LLMs into their pipeline is that Big Tech has a history of sunsetting popular, usable products and replacing them with worse ones. (i'm trying to ween myself off of google scholar, but it is hard).
In the vein of AI making everything better 🙄 today google discontinued their google assistant that we used to verbally add things to a grocery list. Instead you now have to use Gemini which cannot complete the same task.

Anyone have a good android list app that allows you to add things by speaking?

I give this to my students for when they need to search reference now. It’s the only way to find anything remotely useable anymore
How to filter out AI Images in Google Image Search.

Sharing this with my students so I figured I'd also share it with everyone here.

Hopefully this image is still relevant given Google's changes. Save this on your computer or phone and refer to it as needed.

At a certain point you realize they've siphoned up all the useable data they can and it still can't reliably work. The reality that there will never be enough useable data to make it useable sets in.

Please enjoy this graph from a FT article explaining that AI hasn’t added any value (no, debt and circular investment isn’t value)

It has produced More Stuff, it’s just the Stuff isn’t useable or fixable. Welcome to the age of everyone making apps no one uses

It is pretty astonishing that any time you have to go check them, Facebook and LinkedIn are both, generously speaking, barely useable

I still have to use Facebook for biz reasons and it is an excellent example of mission creep turning a once popular and useable interface into something so layered with features and settings that it is impossible to use.
