#vasoconstriction
today’s word is “vasoconstriction”

hard cosign from a nicardipine stan 😁

in general the pathophysiology of most hypertensive emergencies is excess *vasoconstriction*

using a beta-blocker to treat vasoconstriction can precipitate hypoperfusion, because you’re not fixing the problem #EMIMCC
Another day, another dissection, another excuse for the Drake Meme

Since caffeine inhibits your body's ability to dilate the bitty blood vessels near the skin, it inhibits your body's ability to cool off your vital organs. Studies have found that the water in coffee replaces whatever it makes you pee away, but the vasoconstriction is a problem.

Girl who takes caffeine pills just because the vasoconstriction makes tucking easier

thank you~

the feeling of my hand on a girl’s cheek while the temperature shifts due to my words inducing vasoconstriction, keeping her blood in her core for fighting or running

the physical manifestation that results from thousands of years of evolution

the moment she learns she is my prey

Damn you, vasoconstriction and brain aneurysms

Wondering why vasoconstrictors work in hepatorenal syndrome even though the pathogenesis is driven by renal vasoconstriction? Here is a conceptual explanation:

Further studies showed that pruning involved drastic changes to blood flow in the fingers, meaning the "proximate cause" is vasoconstriction triggered unconsciously by the nervous system.

This results in net fluid flow OUT of the tissues, causing wrinkling.

Water‐immersion wrinkling is due to vasoconstriction
The underlying mechanism of the water-immersion skin wrinkling test, which is used as a test of sympathetic nerve function, remains elusive. We investigated changes of blood circulation in the hand o...

okay so cpaps improve blood pressure, and high blood pressure / vasoconstriction does make your pp smol and floppy. I think there's a plausible mechanism of action here

i finally made sense of this longstanding meme

lisdex (vyvanse/elvanse) causes peripheral vasoconstriction and my lower legs are often cold when I'm on it

programming socks solve this
put on the programming socks

Looks cool! And a good reminder that many "neuro" transmitters can act on the vasculature. Indeed serotonin was first discovered there and named for causing vasoconstriction (serum tone ~ serotonin)
New preprint from collaboration with @sn-lab.bsky.social - 2p imaging of psilocybin's effects on neurovascular coupling 🧠🔬

We found that psilocybin prolongs the neurovascular response, independent of neural activity.

This would affect how we should interpret fMRI BOLD studies of psychedelics ‼️
Excited to share our latest work is up on bioRxiv! Looking at capillary flow speed changes we show that psilocybin prolongs the neurovascular coupling response to a visual stimulus. 🍄🔬🧠🩸

Might help any hemorrhoids, won't help your nose.

(Local vasoconstriction. You're better off getting the same thing in topical format, better known as Preparation H.)

Love it when severe vasoconstriction hits out of nowhere and I’m icy cold at room temperature
April 29, 2025 at 8:49 PM
I can’t even tell what the ambient temperature is anymore. 95% of the time I’m icy cold with major peripheral vasoconstriction, and the other 5% I’m pouring sweat (but possibly also cold?)

Also, you do not want to be consuming alcohol with POTS since it prevents vasoconstriction.

Didn't Rockstar boast realistic horse ball vasoconstriction?

Ugh I hate the vasoconstriction and cold hands and feet I get from Concerta

It is an antihistamine, it's just a h2 histamine antagonist instead of a h1 histamine antagonist. h1 histamine receptors = sneezing/runny nose, h2 histamine receptors = gastric acid secretion, smooth muscle spasms, vasoconstriction. You need both to chill out the mast cell reaction--

If i drink too much caffeine too fast the vasoconstriction gives me a migraine

Chugging an average coffee in less than an hour will do it
September 23, 2026 at 11:01 AM
yup. this. amphetamines don’t have the vasoconstrictive activity like cocaine. it’s why cocaine puts a hole in the nasal septum: sustained vasoconstriction causes the tissue to die.
