Yeah, I can see a videogame market crash.

We've been here before with really bad games being pushed out on the VCS2600 etc which crashed the industry in the US only.

But this time, worldwide. Bar first party Nintendo games yet again.

The Atari VCS2600 port of Pac Man was okay. Sure it wasn't great but it had hardware limitations to it.

For one 4:3 screen than 3:4 screen on the arcade, so even having a up/down scrolling maze wouldn't have worked.

Plus resolution, rom size is way smaller than arcade.

Me at age 5 figured this stuff out as there wasn't magazines, cheat sheets or anything of the sort back then. Did like my VCS2600 at the time.

I was playing on a Atari VCS2600 back in 1980, I completed Pac Man, Missile Command, The Smurfs (They had no ending but completing meant you maxed out the CPU which couldn't make the game any faster)

I used a betamax player in 1979, a top loader in 1979 and learned to program a VCR in 1978.

Sometimes the name of a game is enough to make you curious. Just tried "Communist Mutants from Space" from '82 on the VCS. Never heard of it before. Funny to see how they programmed around the sprite limitations. Nice Game!

“Como en los noventa” y te ponen una NES, una Atari VCS2600 y las portátiles lumínicas de Mattel de fútbol americano.
This teacher showed artifacts from 30 yrs ago. Funny and depressing at the same time. 30 yrs ago was 1990. 🤦🏻‍♀️

No but with a little add on you can play VCS2600 E.T. for hours of fun.

I loved using the VCS2600 joystick, anyway, more than my Albatross Ball (which came much later). :)

Totally! Pitfall is a literal masterpiece on the VCS2600! David did wonders, back then!

Moments in videogaming you never forget.

1. Turning on the Atari VCS2600 for the first time and just sitting there amazed with simple graphics as I tried to stop missiles hitting cities in Missle Command.

Uh huh. I see your hand and raise you...

£1,000 for Mini Cooper, 1975

Which makes Atari VCS2600 priced at £199.99 at launch actually fucking expensive for the time.

1975, let's see

No accessibility, only 2 TV channels, most TV's were B&W, Ultra low res graphics on VCS2600 etc, nasty frozen TV dinners, cars without seat belts (I know, right!), just bacon sandwiches on British Rail for breakfast...

Just thinking that if Atari brought out say in 1980 or something the Atari VCS2600 Pro which increased system ram from 128bytes to even 4Kb or 8Kb, it may have been able to do decent ports of Pac Man etc.

The ram really did set that system back.

Honestly, born 1975, played on a VCS2600 in 1979, saw Jaws that year, seen Towering Inferno as a UK TV premier on BBC or was it ITV? Watched Watership Down on Betamax and VHS...

The thing about books, the most important thing about books. Is that they aren't easy to be edited with digital information slop by excessive power usage machines that can't even beat an Atari VCS2600 at Chess.

Wasn't that, was um... This... Came free with the VCS2600, old wooden version...

So first time seeing game graphics was this, the very first game that came free with the Atari VCS2600 back in 1979.
