🧵Extending over 2,280 feet over the town of Yarm and across the River Tees the viaduct is constructed of 43 arches most of them in red brick. It opened in 1852 carrying the then Leeds Northern Railway. The bridge cost £44,500 and was designed by Thomas Grainger and John Bourne.

Old photo: if Maggie Thatcher had got her way, this would have been - at best - a disused monument to our engineering heritage.

#31DaysOfGraves Day 28 - Landscape: When the railway was extended in Leeds in the 1860s, it bisected the Parish church burial ground. Instead of a viaduct, an embankment was created to prevent disturbing the burials, and the stones were relaid in their original position.

The new extension to the Tyne & Wear Metro in NE England could have one of the best views on the network – especially at this time of the year. Imagine the views from the Victoria Viaduct, on this lovely stretch of the River Wear!

Today’s the day. My trains are currently running on time.

I am not.

Hopefully I won’t be blown of the platform that’s on a railway viaduct.
