Within this aberration of city structure, VotC and their partners (including Trickster Cultural Center and OpenLands) have developed a set of programs focused on uncovering, examining, and expanding themes of ancestry. They're partway through renovating the house on site as a center for this work.

Day 17 - The movie with the greatest villain
I have to go with Heath Ledger's Joker in The Dark Knight. The thing about that character was that he wasn't crazy - he just didn't care. He was just a simple sociopath.

I don't work with VotC in their programming, but their founder is a friend, the org is mentoring PullmanArts through a multi-year grant, and several of their arts collaborators are also PullmanArts collaborators. It's lovely to see them dig into this once neglected space with so much intentionality.

Five years ago, the whole front portion of the property was a dumping ground for junk cars. A tree had fallen onto the long-vacant house. The garage was collapsing. VotC was determined to save as much as they could, and rehabilitate the natural landscape here that shone through all the clutter.

The parcel that VotC now owns, acquired after a period of abandonment and subsequent Cook County Land Bank Authority ownership, includes a little bit of topographic undulation where a stream used to flow into an impermanent pond. Much of the space was seemingly never farmed or developed.

Result: this degraded vision disrupted both EVC and VOTC — unlike in the cataract-reversal participants, where only EVC was affected.
