For those curious about the painting process, first I use a watercolour marker to sketch the design, and then paint a thin layer to start with. Then build up the colors, shades and finally, the highlights. Here's a waxeye I've been working on.

A little green tauhou (waxeye) flew into a window pane today and fell to the deck, stunned. It lay there while it gradually recovered, poor little thing. I was touched to notice that the bird's flock flew over to be with their fallen friend, hopping around it anxiously, their concern evident. 🐦💚💚💚

A little green tauhou (waxeye) flew into a window pane today and fell to the deck, stunned. It lay there while it gradually recovered, poor little thing. I was touched to notice that the bird's flock flew over to be with their fallen friend, hopping around it anxiously, their concern evident. 🐦💚💚💚

Guys! A little Waxeye (Silvereye) flew in through my open door and landed on the curtain rail. I felt like a Disney Princess holding it in my hand.
I know it looks stressed here. I only paused for half a second to take the photo then put it on a post outside. It flew away a few seconds later.

Heard a thunk on the door. Wee tauhou looking stunned outside. Took a few photos because I have a felting project I want to do with them, and the references are handy. Just flew back off again.

- Tiny green 'waxeye' bird - who likes fruit, berries & insects. Usually seen in bunches of 6 or more - a welcome sight, and always fun to watch

Gross, I found a local cat's stash in the back yard yesterday--a dead rat and a decapitated bird. The bird may have been a waxeye, based on the yellow wings.

Gross, I found a local cat's stash in the back yard yesterday--a dead rat and a decapitated bird. The bird may have been a waxeye, based on the yellow wings.

Went to the park on Saturday to play some badminton.
In the tree next to us, a little tauhou/waxeye came to say hello. They seemed very interested in me (maybe the colours on my mask); it replied to me when I spoke to it, and it got closer, and closer, tilting its head to get a good look. Magical!
