The reason we went to Saskatoon. Private guided tour to look for the endangered whooping cranes as they migrate south. Here are 3 of the 61 we saw. There are approx 540 in the Canadian flock and roughly 800 left in North America.

A very important paper on #WhoopingCranes from a big team of researchers, including ours at the International Crane Foundation. Analysis of 150 years of genomic data reveals the species has lost 70% of its genetic diversity. The authors recommend maintaining Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
I'm super happy to share our newest preprint on whooping crane genomics 🐣🧬

Today was one of our warmest days here in Wisconsin this year. It was 95F. Wished I had my own personal water feature like this pair of Whooping Cranes at ICF. These are a few still shots when they were bathing. I think that's the female surfacing after a good head dunk. #WhoopingCranes #birds

One more pic of one of the #WhoopingCranes getting out of the water to dry off at the top of the hill in it's enclosure. You can see what clipped wings look like. There is no netting above their habitat and their wings are clipped so they cannot fly away.Left wing is clipped, but growing back.
