Executive function practice doesn't have to be another planner. ✂️🧠

Today we're exploring working memory through expressive arts.

Not just: What did I remember?

But: What helped my brain remember?

That's useful data. 💜💛

Your brain is not a storage unit. 🧠

Take 3 minutes. Dump it ALL out. Don't organize it. Don't fix it.

Then notice: What changed?

Try. Notice. Adjust.

New Publication Alert! 🚨

Along with @koberauer.bsky.social and @agnesrosner.bsky.social we investigated if eye movements are functional for memory retrieval in an associative recognition task and largely found evidence against it.

Organizing for 20 yrs yet still losing things the moment they're put away. The problem isn't your system. It's how your brain sustains memory once something leaves your line of sight.

Women who suspect ADHD describe the same thing: not chaotic, not disorganized, just unable to hold onto things the moment they leave their line of sight. That's a working memory pattern consistent enough that research addresses it directly.

It is 2pm. You just remembered the form. You have no memory of putting it away. The drawer has swallowed it completely. This is a structural gap in how working memory sustains awareness once something leaves your field of view.

The checklist has *saved countless lives* in aviation & other high-risk areas where tracking things is too much for #WorkingMemory. It is also helpful for lower-stakes tasks--in my case, writing a YA novel with worldbuilding, where an outline alone isn't enough.

ADHD brains struggle with working memory load.

Nesting tasks three clicks deep creates cognitive friction.

You forget the steps before you even start.

Flat, visible systems reduce this barrier.

Struggling with invisible deadlines? Stop relying on mental schedules.

Under stress, the mind drops time-related tasks.

Draw a physical timeline. Make the abstract sequence concrete.
