Core to reactionary politics is a cowardly project that aims to protect and restore privilege and hierarchies of oppression

Day 11 of the UCU workers' strike at the University of Edinburgh, over deteriorating conditions for staff and a resulting deterioration of educational conditions for students. All of this, while senior management awards itself with ever bigger pay increases. This is a scandal.
Was just on Threads and this was my "For you" algorithm when I posted a comment debunking the story. Say what you will about BlueSky being a bubble, but its not designed to enrage and deceive its users

Excellent comme d'habitude, merci!

The media constantly bangs on about the need to listen to the "left behind" or "the people" when referring to the far-right minority wanting to undo any democratic progress

When it's young people or communities demanding change on the other hand, that's unacceptable
On en est vraiment à un point où l'on se demande pourquoi un parti politique cherche à collecter les revendications des citoyen·ne·s et à leur donner une forme politique ?

Two elderly gentlemen were arrested at the top of my high street this morning for holding signs saying “I oppose genocide, I support Palestine action”. It took over a dozen police to carry one of them away.

When is Burnham going to stop this madness?
All I really want to know about Burnham is where does he stand on turning civil disobedience into terrorism, and will he reverse the current approach in which inciting damaging military hardware is punished far more severely than inciting far right riots? www.thekeymagazine.com/p/palestine-...

Think of it less as bias, and more: it’s snobbery and hierarchy. Badenoch is a ludicrous, disastrously online clown but she is leader of the Tory Party, and that makes her a real person who matters, supported by real people who matter. Polanski is not: he is beneath them, and so are his supporters.
"The contrast between the utterly sycophantic coverage of Badenoch ... and the utterly dismissive coverage of Polanski, who has significantly improved his party’s standing over the past year, tells you everything you need to know about media bias in the UK"

Stories is such a good way of putting this.

Can a novel be full of pain and suffering? Clearly yes. Does a fictional character suffer in the real world?

They're fictional don't be a dumbass.

Another dimension of this: the Gaza genocide can only be properly and fully understood as a joint venture between the far right Netanyahu government and its centrist enablers in Washington, primarily, but also in London, Berlin and elsewhere.
"Many people prefer to believe the brutes and the sadists are responsible, largely because they are not like 'us,'" writes @omerbartov.bsky.social. "But modern genocide is the product of the technocrats, bureaucrats and cold planners of extermination, who don’t get their hands dirty."

It’s easier to blame brutes and sadists for extreme violence. But as we see in the documentary, modern genocides are fueled by people who are uncomfortably recognizable
