These are good important gaps, but two years to build two blocks of bike lane is so tough…planning now-mid 2027? What are we planning, the map is right here, we’re doing it, it’s planned!
city will fix 2 notorious Uptown bike lane problems between now and 2028:

-connect the missing link on Lake between Humboldt & Hennepin Ave.
-convert to a 2 way bike lane on Hennepin between Lake & 31st; create curbside parking for food delivery drivers who always park in the existing lanes.

I’m playing pull tabs FOR MY ART
rebel loon made out of pull tabs and meat raffle tickets, a staple of minnesota dive bars. this is such beautiful, perfect energy on every level.

(worth noting that those meat raffle cards are from small towns in rural minnesota)

This bike lane is reliably blocked, not always this many cars but almost always 1-3. Hennepin Co resurfaced it in April(?) - great opportunity to add a curb, or at least flex posts but no they re did it exactly as was
If it fits, I sits … because everyone else is doing it.

I had no idea there were so many VIPs (drivers who prioritize their personal convenience over the safety of others) over here in Prospect Park.

Got a lot of this in planning school, and the canonical answer is, "Invest in the community that is already there so they can build wealth and social capital" which, like, yes. Hard to be against that.

But how to square "Transfer wealth into low-wealth communities" with "Outside investment bad"?
I’m reading an academic paper that simultaneously warns of both disinvestment in low-income neighborhoods and gentrification pressures, and I’m genuinely uncertain what we’re supposed to do if disinvestment is bad but outside investment is also bad.

Fred Melo of the Pioneer Press, @frederickmelo.bsky.social, got the memo and posted it on Twitter. Here's what he posted. My opinion? It's pure hackery. Anyone who relied on this memo got snowed or was looking for permission to kill this version Right to Repair.

Closing specific streets at certain times after violent crimes might prevent those same crimes from occurring there and then. It doesn’t fundamentally prevent violent crimes. But it does inconvenience everyone trying to go about their lives. And I’d guess a few cops get some easy overtime $$$
Minneapolis is closing several streets in the area every weekend night, necessitating the detour of several routes. -JN

Keith is 100% right. Commercial property ownership is almost always the problem holding back neighborhoods and growth.
Uptown doesn't lack ideas—it needs landlords who charge market rate for businesses that serve its residents.

Anyone willing to invest in anything new and useful in St Paul needs to be given a building permit immediately.
University of St. Thomas wants to open up its 2004 conditional use permit and add residence halls and retail on Grand Avenue, two levels of parking at Anderson Parking, and remove 6 houses at Cretin/Summit for new academic buildings. Some neighbors are intrigued: www.twincities.com/2026/03/22/u...
University of St. Thomas seeks to build up properties along Summit, Cretin and Grand avenues
According to university officials, St. Thomas remains beholden to outdated conditional use permits crafted for three different sections of the St. Paul campus in 1990, 1995 and 2004.
