People don’t understand how fragile our water infrastructure is. I’ve had contaminated water in the last six years. I’ve had my water co. hijacked for digital ransom. We are in perpetual near drought conditions... in NC, not AZ. AI boosters use pedantry about water use as an accountability shield.
I think we need to differentiate between “AI uses a lot of water!” (not necessarily bad on its own) and “AI stresses local water supplies” (a potentially real issue). The distinction is important because even “modest” use can cause serious issues, especially given the locations of data centers

As one who earned well over 200% of the credits required for my undergrad and always made sure to take 18 credits each semester (everything over 12 was free), I can only call this absolute loser thinking. Make the very most of your fellowships, scholarships, and aid: learn everything you can!
