If you opt to keep Shabana Mahmood in her role as Home Secretary you are telling everybody on the left that you are not interested in actually learning from what Starner did wrong and quite like a lot of it.

All of Burnham's big Cabinet moves so far (keeping Miliband out of the Treasury in favour of Healey who wants a big defence spending hike and keeping Mahmood in the Home Office) look designed to please the right-wing press.

Let's see how it works out for him

Again: how was a guy with no observable political skills and no allies, whom nobody liked or wanted, able to not only seize unquestioned control of the opposition but shitehouse his way to power with no plans for how to govern the country? Is that normal, does that happen in other democracies.

Pop stars who nuke their popularity with their own fanbases get more careful analysis than Starmer is getting for nuking his relationship with millions of his voters. It‘s totally fitting that on the tenth anniversary of wildly unserious Brexit several pundits are gawping “but why did Starmer fail”.
It seems that several commentators have set themselves a challenge: to write a thread or article expressing disbelief as to why Starmer was so loathed without mentioning his stances on AI, Black Lives Matter, Gaza, trans rights, and then dismiss that loathing as the hysteria of out-of-touch elites.

At this point it's impossible to ignore that Esther Ghey thinks the real problem isn't that Brianna was murdered by transphobes, it's that Brianna was trans. And she blames the internet for "turning" Brianna trans.
At this point, I genuinely believe the entire public is being actively gaslit by both the media, and Esther Ghey herself, into forgetting that Brianna Ghey was murdered, by people she knew from school, in real life, who were partly influenced by transphobia, fuelled by the media and politicians.

So let me get this straight, Israel again violates one of many ceasefires it is supposed to be beholden to, and once again the West only calls for restraint when Israel is threatened with retaliation?

Sounds about right.

If Muslims or members of the Asian and Black community had set fire to white people’s homes with children running for their lives, do you think we would be discussing legitimate concerns or focussing on who radicalised them and ideological and contributing cultural factors?

Transphobia is a mental health condition.

Nothing else explains the absolute detachment from reality these people have.

Today: Burnham backs Mahmood’s far right immigration “reforms” and Phillipson set to put barriers up to trans people being able to piss in public toilets
Please stop calling the current far-right Labour party a “progressive vote”. Supporting genocide and taking healthcare from trans people and cutting benefits for the disabled is not in any way “progressive”.

The very idea that Wes Streeting could/would provide the kind of values-based leadership and oratory that connects with human beings and brings back voters lost to the left and right is peak Westminster bubble brain rot.

All you ever need to know about Wes Streeting is drawn from the inimitable Dawn Foster, may she RIP.

More Reform wins are great, tbh. They now have what, two years to drive these councils into the ground just in time for a GE and everyone sees just how utterly useless they are in power beyond jingoistic sloganeering.

The Greens win our first ever directly elected Mayor - a huge historic victory!

Huge congratulations to Zoë and the entire team.

Two party politics isn't dying. It's dead and it's buried.

And we're making hope normal again.

This is the problem. A pitch to voters "turning to Greens and Reform". You have to actually choose between the voters who want what they perceive as a socially liberal socialist environmentalist party and the ones who want fascism. You can't appeal to both, and now they all hate you.

#UMK26 was done in 2.5 hours. #DasDeutscheFinal is still dragging on with no end for an absolutely bang average song. If that isn’t a spyglass into how German society works I don’t know what else is.

If Reform had won, Labour's statement would be that this result is a stark reminder we need to listen and learn from voters who rightly feel betrayed by modern politics.

But the Greens won by a comfortable margin, so it's: these voters are stupid and also sinister and, ugh, Muslims
Yeah, having now slept on it properly, it is weird that no losing parties statement really reckons with why people might have chosen the Greens and instead they all chose to blame sectarianism. It does suggest that they still don't really recognise people who vote Green as, you know, real people.
