Question for the #yycbike crowd. Doesn’t the city have rules on bike detours for construction? I swear this used to be a thing? @cityofcalgary-rss.bsky.social

Seems like every route today threw out into traffic without warning.

Sorta surreal to have this shared by @doctorow.pluralistic.net... a full circle moment.

This CBC Eyeopener segment on the recent pedestrian deaths in #yyc was pretty disappointing.

With 7 pedestrian deaths to kick off 2026, it’s worth asking why the Traffic Safety Team isn’t delivering results.

…and if “just drive more carefully” is their best idea, it’s easy to see why.

Absolutely horrifying. A monster of a truck vs two parents and their toddler in a stroller.

And CPS says they’re investigating “environmental factors”? Cowards.

This memo from Slacks founder Stewart Butterfield (and the thinking behind it) is a great example of a story about delivering fantastic UX into the world.

Had five conversations with curious parents after taking the cargo bike to the playground this morning. Two outside daycare yesterday. #yycbike

@bikebikeyyc.bsky.social can we get personalized QR code stickers and setup a friendly leaderboard for tracking referrals? (I’m only half joking here lol)

Always love this turn on the new Bridgeland #yycbike lanes that dumps cyclists into a line of parked cars (the Mazda and Hyundai in this picture).

There was a ticket on at least one of the cars today but this is clearly a design issue, not an enforcement issue. @311calgary.bsky.social @calgary.ca

In the ZIRP era, tech optimized for "velocity" because it's easy to count the # of features you released, and hard to measure real value.

When interest rates went up, they began to realize that's fucking stupid.

But just in time, AI became a cheat code for infinite money - and infinite velocity.
AI saved the feature factory
When outputs are valued above all else, hallucinations and slop aren't bugs — they're features.

Growing western alienation is a tantalizing storyline and it gets clicks and eyeballs, I'm sure, but it is not borne out by the facts.

Alberta-first identity is on the decline, not increase.
Loud voices might make you think otherwise, but Albertans are more committed to Canada, not less:

"While 22% identify primarily as Albertan, more than 3/4 see themselves as Canadian... support for an Alberta-first identity [is below the 28%] found in 2020."

www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/artic...
One in four people in Alberta identify as Albertans first, Canadians second, Nanos poll finds
But poll also suggests that voluble separatist forces in the province only represent small fraction of the population
