Intro Post: I'm the cartoonist of Complete the Quest: The Poisonous Library, the 1st RPG graphic novel & Draw out the Story: Ten Secrets to Creating Your Own Comics. I also write Owl Magazines' monthly Spruce Street Squad comic, and have cartooned for Nickelodeon, The Nib, the New Yorker and more.

I painted a similar scene to this in college. The idea's been with me for a while.
Atop a high building at sunset, a gargoyle and medusa-like woman hold each other lovingly, looking out on the city. The medusa's hair wraps around the gargoyle's horns and head as they hold hands and he hugs her with his free arm, and wraps his wings around them a bit. They are calm and in love.

These ads got me to stop and plan a day to visit the Museum of Toronto, which is small but very cool.
a bikeshare poster display with a large pink arrow and the text site of a cop car left to burn Same but the arrow points down and there is text explaining how during the g10 there were protests that included kettling and a burning police car. this one has a yellow arrow and the phrase the birthplace of pregnancy racing another one with a yellow arrow pointing down and the headline Site of Secret 1950s Rendezvous that has text explaining the King Eddy hotel (across the street in the picture) was a hot spot for queer people to hook up.

SPIDER - 2026

My piece for @paulscottcanavan.com 's excellent Mastering Imaginative Realism course. it's the hardest I've ever worked on a single image and has been a total goldmine for technique, research and workflow.

sorry if you don't like spiders, I found painting this very healing.

Comics folks: trying to remember the name of a book about comics I read as a kid. Was kind of a history of comics? I think? I remember a section with color plates showing how the CMYK process works, I believe with an old painting of the Phantom. Also several pages of Richard Corben art. Anyone?
