1/ 🧵 Two classic mitochondrial pathways the TCA cycle and OXPHOS are taught as linked but distinct pathways. I’m happy to share our new work out in @cp-cell.bsky.social showing that in Acanthamoeba they're physically linked—with a TCA enzyme incorporated in ATP synthase. www.cell.com/cell/fulltex...
Acanthamoeba ATP synthase structure reveals the TCA cycle is tethered to OXPHOS
Acanthamoeba castellanii, a pathogenic amoeba, belongs to an evolutionary branch distinctly removed from humans and fungi. Cryo-EM of the organism’s ATP synthase enzyme using raw mitochondrial lysates...

I'll save you the click-through:
A lab at University of Copenhagen had been feeding draft manuscripts & data into "Claude Science" & then Anthropic announces a discovery that this lab made a year ago but hasn't published yet.

It's plausible that Claude found the same signatures independently...
Four days ago, a scientist was surprised by the news that Anthropic discovered new virus genes for making DNA. He says he’s been studying them for years—and feeding his data to Anthropic’s AI as part of his own research. Coincidence? Here’s my story. nyti.ms/3VSWayc
Did Anthropic’s A.I. Really Make a Scientific Discovery on Its Own? (Gift Article)
An expert at the University of Copenhagen said his team had been sharing its research with the company’s A.I. model, Claude, and that its new finding matched their work.

Wow. Amazing, prescient vision of the future of academia by @giorgio.gilest.ro You don’t need to agree, but read and consider.
Academia has seen inflation in the past 30 years but it is now entering Republic of Weimar territory, with value of knowledge moving from "paper to land".

In all this, Open hardware is an act of armed resistance to Technofeudalism.

🎉Preprint out! In our new manuscript, we reveal that, much like us, wake up (proliferation) and sleeping (quiescence) patterns of adult neural stem cells are controlled by the circadian clock machinery. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
PER2- and state-dependent transcriptional programs gate neural stem cell proliferation with niche-specific circadian autonomy
Adult neural stem cells (NSCs) in the mouse brain are predominantly quiescent, with activation tightly regulated to balance neurogenesis and stem cell maintenance. Circadian clocks temporally organize...
