So excited to join the Perutz! #lipidtime
I will also be looking for new PhD students and postdocs soon ☺️
Exciting news for the Perutz: @mschuhmacher.bsky.social will join the institute as a new group leader in 2027! 🎉 Currently leading an independent group at EPFL Lausanne, Milena brings an innovative chemical biology approach to lipid research ➡️ tinyurl.com/4x9xm24m

#lipidtime: It's a lipid universe. Today in Nature we publish the Lipid Brain Atlas, the first map of membrane lipid composition across the entire mouse brain, a layer of organisation that cell-type and transcript maps had left out. #lipidomics #neuroscience #BrainAtlas

How can we figure out, how protein activity is controlled in space and time?

I am very happy that @janavolaric.bsky.social joined the @led3hub.bsky.social as an NWO VENI fellow this year to address exactly this question using exciting optical tools.

New #lipidtime paper out in @biophysj.bsky.social! 🚨

We built "pseudoproteins" of different lengths to investigate protein-induced lipid sorting based on tail unsaturation.

TLDR:
- Unsaturated lipids ❤️ short proteins
- Saturated lipids ❤️ long proteins (but not always)

Physical state of a cell, how tightly packed plasma membrane is or how polarised its mitochondria are, shapes what the cell does. Measuring this across many cells at once has been hard. Spectral biophysical cytometry is now out in @natnano.nature.com:

Pretty sure everyone has seen it already, but if you are also late like me, here is an excellent lipidtime paper by @nadlerlab.bsky.social and Co. One step closer to understanding the spatiotemporal lipid diversity in cells!
Out today in @nature.com: Together with the Honigmann, Shevchenko, Drobot and Hof labs, we present a general workflow for imaging the localization and transport of individual lipids in cells and mapping their metabolism.
