Every billionaire believes this because they all see themselves in the role. None have the depth to think about what any dictator would necessarily have to do to be "efficient" in governance and "benevolent" for the people: seize billionaires' assets and nationalize their industries.
“Democracy has been hailed as, like, the holy grail for the last couple hundred years, but democracies are inefficient,” said the crypto billionaire. “If you get a benevolent dictator, it’s actually extremely efficient."

Hmm, where have I heard this before?

HUGE: The Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes have both voted to impose a three-year moratorium on data center construction on tribal lands — temporarily banning dara centers on 8,000 square miles.

The Cherokee Nation, Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, and the Kickapoo Tribe have all imposed similar bans.

"JK Rowling is already a billionaire and everyone already knows about Harry Potter, what's the point of boycotting?"

Nobody thinks boycotting will bankrupt her. We know she's gonna die rich. We're just asking you to show a shred of solidarity with trans folk. Absolute low bar bare minimum shit.

I’m still going as Nebraska Hal Jordan for Halloween, but while I enjoyed #Lanterns a lot, I was really surprised at how much a prequel the show truly was. I take this to mean that while John has a pretty big role in Superman 2, it’s not big enough that there’s room in the film for his back story.
I’m going to be Green Lantern for #Halloween, but the #Lanterns Hal Jordan version, so I have about a month to find a good ring. If I don’t, then I’ll be Lanterns Hal Jordan AFTER he loses the ring.

Just saw someone say their AI runs their fantasy football team and I can’t stop laughing. Like, I’m sure everyone’s doing it or something but it’s very funny to me that pretending to be a team manager was so hard that you needed to pretend to pretend to be a team manager

I saw a rando nerd recently, still whining because Agents of SHIELD isn’t official #MCU canon, still mad at #Marvel for not acknowledging it, and I just can’t imagine…

A. Deciding that Agents of SHIELD was the hill you would die on,

Or B. That the subject was even a hill at this point.

I think the problem is that for whatever reason, society/the media/whoever have correctly determined we need a way to reintegrate millions of people into society and from that incorrectly determined the way to do so is for the people who were wronged to apologize to the people who wronged them.
The press is so invested in a “these aren’t bad, racist people, they were hoodwinked!” whitewash of the Trump years.

I think we missed a huge opportunity to normalize masking as a public health tool.

We eradicated an entire strain of the flu with Covid prevention measures.

Masking shows respect for those around you.

It shows solidarity with the disability community.

It shows you value long term health.

Normalizing masks over normalizing excess death & normalizing horrific disability seems like it would be an easy choice

It’s still the choice I make too

I mask since 2020 & require people visiting my house to wear masks

I supply them if needed

It’s not that hard

It saves lives

Please mask up
I’ve been wearing a mask since 2020, never stopped. It’s not even that big a deal to wear it, but it’s a HUGE deal to those who have weak immune systems. It absolutely helps reduce the chance of people getting sick, it’s just that simple. Please mask up.

They’re framed as a contagion ruining otherwise virtuous suburban lives, luring their innocent children into lurid and seedy relationships with racial minorities who may have sex with them.
Drug smuggling has proven to be a great pretext for just about any assault on anyone. However, there is a discomforting bias against working on the demand side of this market. What is the Trumpian rationale for that?

Have you noticed, lately, or noticed people around you commenting, that there just seems to be no money anymore. There's no money for companies to make the tv shows you like, the video games you like, the local diner you like shut down, no one you know can find a job.

Think about that in context of
AI is now the biggest investment in all of US history as a percentage of GDP.

Datacenter construction is up, all other construction is down.

"AI Is Squeezing Out the Rest of the Stock Market," reported WSJ 2 days ago.

We basically bet the whole economy on the most optimistic visions panning out.
Part of why I don't like the AI-or-bust economy is the constant flopsweat of people on the news who say this HAS to work. Quit making everyone so anxious. Goddamn. If this is the next Google then why are you acting like this? I don't remember being told to buy an iPhone at gunpoint.
