I grew up on stories of Henry Blogg. Henry Blogg was a lifeboatman at Cromer who couldn't FUCKING SWIM.

His gallantry won him a BUNCH of medals (go look him up or read Cyril Jolly's biography).

He went out to sea in a glorified rowboat. Over and over again.

My cousin is at the helm of this D Class inshore lifeboat. He served with the #RNLI in Cornwall for over 30 years, mostly as crew / helm, but more recently as launch authority.

If you’re able to make a donation to help save lives at sea, here’s the link.

I worked for the RNLI for 9 years, supporting the training of crew, lifeguards and staff. I met many crew volunteers, all of whom were far better human beings than the fascist thugs attacking them. Crew put their life on the line everytime they go to sea. Please support them

The RNLI have some of the best people in Britain volunteering for them. They put their lives on the line when they are called on and they will rescue anyone who needs them. Because every life matters, and offering help is the right thing to do.

Not a #OnePlaceStudy registered with us, but one that I discovered while looking for material for #OnePlaceWednesday. It has a website which is being actively updated – do check out Sturminster Newton One Place Study. I have linked to one of the site’s Photos pages as that generates a preview image.

Coming soon to Waterstones, Amazon and Pen & Sword. For the genealogy community, it is my greatest wish for this book, that it might help you untie the knot in your research to reveal that elusive relative. #Genealogy #Ancestry

Lady St Mary in Wareham - standing at the gateway to the Isle of Purbeck, just back from Wareham Quay and the River Frome. Built on the site of the C8th Saxon minster, a small south chapel of C12th and some early C14th century elements in the chancel. The nave was rebuilt in C19th. #Dorset

Got brain into gear & ordered the death cert. My theory was correct! Newspaper named father as Charles when he was actually Richard. Which matches the theory I was going with 👍

#OnePlaceWednesday trying to track a #BoatFamily who are being very elusive. Got a burial, death reg & article for child. Article full of names but can't find them. Now working on theory that newspaper completely mucked up parent names and I need to look for different people.
Too hot for this!

Easy! (Joking, very messy!)
William Taylor m Martha Darby who previously m Jacob Taylor.
William Taylor m Martha Webb.
And oops also found a Joseph Taylor m Rose Hannah Darby.
All boatmen and Joseph & the first William are probably brothers.
#OnePlaceWednesday #BoatFamilies
#OnePlaceWednesday I've just discovered that I've got 2x William Taylor boatmen who both married a Martha & I have got them well & truly mixed up🤦‍♀️ This is why I work them out on paper first before adding them to the tree!
Stitch & natter tonight so will clear my mind before sorting this mess!

My latest blog explores a small stream which may have contributed to the place name. It’s one of many stories from the landscape, people & history of the parish from earliest origins to the railway age. #OnePlaceWednesday

Excellent. To add to my John Jones boatmen, I now have a William Williams. And of course they're mostly based in Cheshire. Think I might just ignore that one for a while😂 #OnePlaceStudies #BoatFamilies

The day job today was spent cataloguing obituaries. Can't tell you who or the collection I'm working with but I can say that you really want your person of interest to end up with an obit in the Telegraph or the Times. So much info, career stuff, genealogical, gold dust all of it! #FamilyHistory

Today in #BoatFamilies research I'm trying to untangle the life of 1 man & his 4 wives. Only found the 4th one thanks to a newspaper report on her death. Wife 3 only has a first name because I can't find a marriage. Wives 2 and 4 were both previously married too, it's getting messy! #OnePlaceStudies
