I resigned from ExxonMobil today. I spent the last three years doing fossil fuel extraction research at both BP and ExxonMobil. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing to maximize extraction while the window to act closes, and gambling with our lives. More below.

Every. Single. Time. regulations are relaxed and there's a cheaper way to do anything, a company will do that. Fines are small. There's no jail time for execs who say sure, store fresh product next to rotting offal or workers must use plowed fields as latrines and then it *foreseeably* kills people.
“Lawmakers have attempted for years to pass language that would allow small ranches and local slaughterhouses to sell meat directly to consumers without USDA inspections”.

And now Trump is attempting to do just that. This is dangerous. There are regulations around food processing for a reason.
Trump looks to ease beef processing regulations
The sweeping changes to meat processing will likely require a longer-term regulatory process or congressional action.

Remember, there's no money for health care or disaster relief or adequate food inspection and weather prediction, but plenty of money to support something that already has billions and billions in investment helping it along.

(And plenty of money for war and spoiling the people's landmarks.)

Sapphic peeps: authors writers publishers book people who joined the Bartz v. Anthropic class action - the court has filed the final settlement. READ THIS THREAD.

Partial payouts as soon as September as possible IF NO ONE FILES AN APPEAL. All credit to Milan for crunching the numbers and details.
Timing thread. I was going to do this "later tonight" and apparently "later tonight" means "immediately, right now" because my brain also wants to know the answer.
Hey, the court just gave final approval to the settlement in Bartz v. Anthropic. I'm reading through the order right now.

A powerful movie with images I remember decades later.

No surprise that the performances were powerhouse.
As the world prepares for Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey," we look back at a very different adaptation of classical Greek antiquity, dealing with the aftermath of the Trojan War.

I smell a patsy. Who's likely guilty, but was also likely doing what Everyone Else in the Room was doing, including TFG.

Cause this guy might hang for it and then all investigations will stop. The hundreds of millions made in seconds, time and time again, was all by him. Sure.

Book lovers! Take the time to read this. Small presses, this is about your submissions now. Authors, this is what we're competing with. Readers, this is the future "meh" of stories if AI is doing the writing.
Very grateful to Bona Books for reporting on this with such transparency.
AI fraud nearly derailed our next anthology.

Today we’re talking about what went down, the things we missed, and publishing the report we wish we’d had when it happened.

I simply can't IMAGINE what it must feel like to have a powerful entity STEAL YOUR UNIQUE STUFF and use it to make things that both divert your income to their pocket and help even more people steal from you.
That really must just suck so much. #thoughtsandprayers

TOO
lesbian.

Yup. Same in gaming and using mods. It's "he decides to" and "she has to".
Being a woman rocks because if you use AI you’re stupid and if you don’t use AI you’re dumb
Women’s use of AI is perceived as a sign of incompetence, while men’s use of AI is seen as an indication of initiative. 🤦🏻‍♂️

The architect of breaking the judiciary as well. He was so intent on winning the courts by any means that he didn't care who received the resulting power, including a madman intent on breaking the country itself.

May fire ants be the last thing he sees. ALL of this is on him.
Don't want to speak ill of the dead, so getting this Mitch McConnell take out now.
He saw Trump with complete clarity, as a danger to America, but protected him anyway.
Perhaps more than anyone, he had the power to end Trumpism, but chose party over country.

Yes, and TFG wanted to GIVE the entire taxpayer funded apparatus to a corporation who would then sell us what we already paid for.

Because it's not a good government program if one of them isn't getting a cut off the top.

I remember when the world sent tall ships to sail into New York Harbor to celebrate the USA's 200th birthday in 1976. When everywhere I looked bicentennial celebrations were happening - big cities, small towns, it was one big celebration.

This is grotesque.
