so the official bluesky policy position is that you can't tell someone to kill themselves but you can tell a protected minority category that you hope that state kills them. Am i getting that right.
Are they threatening trans users directly? No. Trans folks in the US have been targeted repeatedly. That's awful and you have my sympathy.

Within the context of a single post we wouldn't consider it a direct threat or targeting a protected category. Ie send trans folks to concentration camps.

"Artificially generating problems" is a good summary of the whole thing
New Yorkers should know whether the apartment they’re looking at is real.

That’s why we’re working to require apartment listings to clearly disclose when images and videos have been generated by AI.

Finding a home in New York is hard enough without artificially generating more problems.
Is That Fireplace Real or A.I.?
Listing sites are littered with homes with fake fireplaces, improved views and virtual landscaping, raising false advertising concerns.

a lot freaks me out about AI but 0% of my anxiety is about AGI. i think this is the part that freaks me out the most right now -- the many many indications that no one is at the wheel and no adults are present
I cannot stress enough how much of this “concerning behavior” is just “someone told it to do something and then walked away after giving it very broad permissions”

It’s like saying the unwatched bot on a lit burner is exhibiting concerning behavior after you walk away.
"OpenAI on Wednesday disclosed six new instances in which artificial intelligence systems hid mistakes, made up data and moved files onto the open internet without permission, amid an ongoing industrywide debate about A.I. safety."

the worst part about this is that a lot of the damage will be permanent

by the time we can turn the research funding back on a lot of folks will have unsurprisingly and not unreasonably decided that they should leave this area of research because it will never be reliable

what a huge waste
NSF has reduced the research budget for all atmospheric, ocean, and earth sciences by ~80%.

80%!

A lot of us will not be conducting new research or training new students for the foreseeable future.

New — I wrote about this weird thing where people within the Republican party keep being exposed as Nazis and the party then tries to claim each one is an aberration. The facts, as I lay out here, indicate otherwise:
Republicans don’t have a Nazi problem—they are the Nazi problem
A spate of recent revelations have shown the ideologies and their adherents are one and the same.

Not only did I meet Robert Kraft, I worked for him.

His kid Jonathan asked me to “remove the black music” from my gameday playlist in ‘94 & I refused so they fired me. I was the cheerleader director at the time.

I sued them for wrongful termination and won.

So yes, I know that motherfucker.
Did you ever meet Bob Kraft?

Read somewhere about a late teens woman who was going to events with her over 30s/40s boyfriend, and said that the best thing someone could do was pull them aside to let them know that their date was laughing at them and everyone else was laughing at them, too.

Do we need to pull people aside?
Not sure if people know Wakefield was trying to sell a competing measles vaccine when he made up his fraudulent study about the MMR. It was only after that failed (because he is a complete fraud) that he started grifting off opposing all vaccines.

It’s all just a grift. Antivaxxers are their marks.
To do this during the worst measles outbreak in 35 years just after 4 Americans have died is pure psychopathy and tells you exactly where he stands on vaccines 🤬🤬🤬

"why does the left distrust AI" certainly has plenty to do with the technology itself but at its core I think it is about the fact that everyone building it is a wannabe fascist oligarch and nobody trusts them on a god damn thing

Says he wants to center Palestinians being killed + journalists & aid workers who keep going.

This is APPALLING. The Trump administration is detaining multiple random Somali immigrants with no criminal record at Guantanamo Bay, seemingly because the White House ordered ICE specifically to detain Somalis at Gitmo as part of its effort to punish an ethnic group Trump has attacked.

one of the things that became clear during the DOGE saga is that a lot of anger about "corruption" is aimed at actual gov't employees who, it turns out, have to bring their own coffee machines into the office so that taxpayers aren't funding it, meanwhile consultants get this treatment
We're going to have to have a big re-think about what corruption is, and it's going to make a lot of professional advisors + consultants very uncomfortable. There's a lot of people in my socioeconomic strata who take various perks at public expense for granted. www.sfchronicle.com/california/a...
California high-speed rail consultants billed taxpayers for first-class flights, gym trips and more
California’s High Speed Rail improperly reimbursed consultant travel expenses, including premium flights and rides to gyms, a nightclub, an escape room and other destinations.

The thing about trying not to pick a side is that the nazis *instantly recognize* which side you picked. They immediately identify you as an ally. They know exactly what side you're on.

It doesn't fool the victims, it doesn't fool the Nazis, the only people it could possibly fool is centrists.

As I said the first time Trump proposed tariffs: this is precisely why he likes them! It makes everyone come to him on bended knee, begging for exemptions. It makes economic survival dependent on his whim. That, not any economic theory, is the whole attraction. Mafia boss thinking.
While Sen. Katie Britt was publicly defending Trump's tariffs, she was privately seeking exemptions for 4 companies operating in Alabama that could be hurt by tariffs, according to emails between her staff & Trump's US Trade Representative, obtained via FOIA by @wsj.com. www.wsj.com/opinion/kati...

Dear Dems and libs:

Stop helping Republicans muddy differences between the parties on AI and data centers by acquiescing to the "bipartisan opposition" frame.

Rs are laughing at you while polls show Rs now leading Ds on these issues.

Instead, tie Rs directly to Trump's AI/data center malevolence.
Trump is a world-historical villain who's putting us all in extreme danger, so put him at the center of this story. Dems can highlight how Trump is actively using DOJ and EPA to help AI data centers steamroll communities, and vow that a Dem majority will stop it. 2/
