HumanKIND Initiative is putting together an online library of books written by LGBTQIA+ authors. These voices are frequently excluded from traditional publishing, so we are dedicating an entire section of the library to indie and self-published authors.

I tried to think as to why people who are so willing to fight for immigrant rights have been spending the last four odd days telling trans people to shut up, but then I remember that when defending immigrants, every single one of them has said some version of "but who will pick our food?"

A better use of your time as a cis person is to email or phone your politicians and tell them not to rely on your support if they keep attacking trans people. Demand better from your politicians.
Cisgender people, today is a great day to mind your own fucking business and stop trying to police trans/nonbinary folks' emotions

If you see a trans/nonbinary person upset about certain Democrats being shit to them?

Look. When trans folks say "I won't vote for a transphobic candidate." We aren't 'capitulating' to the 33% that we know will eagerly vote for any transphobe. We're trying to engage the 66% of you that we hope believe in human rights, to get out and show it.

Nearly all stores that sell new books can order a book for you even if they don't have it on their shelves. Here's a quick thread about how that works, and how it's ESPECIALLY helpful for writers who self-publish or have work with small presses.
If you check out @ninocipri.bsky.social on insta, you can see why it's so helpful to authors to request/pre-order books in stores and how it works in real time!

Analog Pixel Art! 💜☺️
Ok here it is #SundayFishSketch 🐡

Used whatever scrap thread I had for the color, decided not to try 'shading' yet since it's so small and I've some things to learn before that. This was kinda tough, lol, I hope it makes someone smile!

#QueerWritersChat A5: I've been on a bit of a tear all week about Disney Imagineering starting to incorporate genAI into creative processes for the parks, which I think is wrong-headed for oh so many reasons. And I wrote about them. And then sent those thoughts in letters to five Disney execs.

Oh, for fuck's sake. If you had an "AI" generate the text, then you're not the author. "Oh, but the ideas are mine." Motherfucker, ideas aren't copyrightable, and neither is the text if "AI" barfed it out. In neither a logistical nor legal sense does the term "author" convey to you.
Dean of Science at Stellenbosch University writes that although AI generates almost all the words for his articles (including this one):

"AI did almost all of the writing. I remain the expert and the thought leader behind the piece."

When AI writes the words, who is the author?
After an AI detector classified one of my opinion pieces as entirely AI-generated, I found myself questioning where authorship ends, where expertise begins and what readers deserve to know.

All authors love libraries.

All authors want to see their books in libraries.

Don't ever feel bad for using a library. You just made every author everywhere very, very happy.

Also, request our books in libraries if they aren't there! Be the book change you want to see in the library! ;)
Someone said to me, "I'm sorry but I got your book from a library." Nobody should ever apologise for that. You read my book! That's brilliant! I grew up hanging out in libraries and the idea of a world without them fills me with dread. Without libraries, authors, like readers, will only suffer.

Just 6 years ago there was a broad consensus on ending cash bail and not treating anyone taken by the police as convicted prisoners serving sentences from a judge. But something something woke DEI and now we’re seeing people argue people in jail should be tortured with shock gloves.

Saw the government use the phrase "biological name" in an attempt to justify their deadnaming of Rachel Levine, and if that doesn't perfectly capture the silliness right there...

Dear cis people,

Please, for the love of G-d, stop using the terms "biological male" and "biological female." They're scientifically meaningless. Sex is a bimodal cluster categorization. The brain is biological, no? There is no one factor that's universally determinative of sex and gender.

It’s funny how deeply uncomfortable this statement makes me, considering it is 100% true. If you are the same, don’t let your discomfort lead you astray politically. ID verification is a data grab, anti-lewdness laws are weaponized against queer people, and anti-porn policies only make SW unsafe.
Every person being fascist and puritanical about sex needs to be relentlessly berated and ridiculed. It is anti-human behavior that actively contributes to the corporate sanitization of the internet, forced ID verification laws, criminalization of queer people, and women being stripped of autonomy.
It continues to really bother me how puritanical everyone has gotten.

Showing so much as an ounce of libido is enough for people to call you a gooner. Defending smut in any capacity gets you called a porn addict.

Thank you so much to folks giving it a try! I hope you love it!

Yeah, Kat Tenbarge was much nicer to Jack Osbourne than I would have been, I would have just told him to go fuck himself. Also, if you're going to accuse a writer or journalist of using "AI" on the basis of em dashes, absolutely positively go fuck yourself.
So I woke up this morning to find out that Ozzy Osbourne’s son made a video falsely accusing me of using AI to write a Rolling Stone article about the Tate brothers.

Perfect Days is a thriller by Brazilian author Raphael Montes. I know this because we have a copy in the lodge library, and I read it last month. It’s definitely not an Agatha Christie, which is more my style. It’s creepy as hell, a stalker novel, and at one point the main character holds his kidnap victim in a cabin, outside of cell service, keeping her captive in all but plain sight.
