I'm James: bibliophile, independent bookseller (because selling books is the only way I can justify continuously buying books). Liberty Ink gives me the liberty to not hold down a 9-5 job. Check out my shop at: https://pangobooks.com/bookstore/libertyink
Interesting, rare, firsthand accounts of one woman's ministry in Appalachia during the 1940s, retold as fiction. "Bright Angel Feet," by Ruth Hoien. #Christian #ministry #Appalachia #1940s #booksky

This is particular to the Christian Methodist perspective, but regardless of religious persuasion, it's a fascinating collection of deathbed and near death accounts. As a volunteer hospice chaplain, I have more questions than answers. But the questions are the journey. #booksky #nde #Methodist #UMC

When I was a boy, my father skippered a 100' #schooner in the Virgin Islands. The coolest trip I made with him was to Dead Chest Island, alluded to in "Treasure Island," one of my favorites at the time. Stevenson wrote the song "15 men on a dead man's chest" for the book. #booksky #pirates #sailing

From early childhood to my mid-20s I wanted nothing more than to be a fighter #pilot. I devoured #books like this. I made it pretty far in the training before proving myself a terrible jet pilot. In hindsight, I wish I had devoted far less of my naive youth to pining for #war. #Vietnam #booksky

If you want to understand #fascism, and those who fight against it, a solid understanding of the Spanish Civil War is essential. "The Spanish Civil War" by Hugh Thomas is excellent. "Blood of Spain," seen here, is a masterpiece of oral history from the war. #Spain #civilwar #antifa #booksky

What #book most influenced your adolescence? For me, it was Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. I went on a binge of reading it, watching Apocalypse Now, and listening to The Doors' "This Is the End" on repeat. I've never used hallucinogens, but I'm pretty sure that came close. #booksky #thedoors

It's amazing how changes in cover art can offer fundamentally different expectations of a book. Flameout by Colin Peel, in its original 1976 HC, 1977 Fleetway PB, and 1981 Playboy Book Club PB. Interestingly, the original is much racier than Playboy's version. #booksky #spynovel #books #bookart

Very nice, collectible pictorial history of the world's most overrated motorcycles. I'm biased. Help me out: if you take away the name recognition, & the "you're not a real biker if it's not a Harley" mentality, why pay 5x as much as a comparable bike? #harleydavidson #motorcycles #booksky #bikers

From the estate of a (likely homophobic) minister who, some time between this book's 1940 printing and his demise, fell out of love with the title "Gay Parties for All Occasions," and took a black marker to the cover. 🤣 Still a good copy for planning gay parties, however you define "gay." 📚💙 #lgbtq

Take the predictable plot line of a Hallmark movie, drop it in the Old West, add the steamy sex of a Harlequin novel, and top it all off with some gratuitous violence, and bingo bango boingo, you've got the Longarm series (more than 450 books). Still, a nice bit of escapism. #📚💙 #westerns #longarm

When our ship returned from the war, the change in the water to the unmistakable color of the Chesapeake was the welcome mat to our homecoming. I spent a huge part of my youth playing and working on her waters. Browsing this book was a delightful bout of nostalgia. #fishing #chesapeake #📚💙

Very cool topic. We know, and care, dangerously little about the planet that sustains us all.
The Dark Frontier explores one of our planet's last frontiers: the deep sea. Here, where the light cannot reach, lies a strange, wonderful and breathtaking world, teeming with scientific marvels and lessons for the future of life on this planet.

Out on 9 April: linktr.ee/thedarkfrontier 🌊
