One of the many reasons this was a mistake by SF. It elevates those who need it, and gives them nothing in return. Irish unification is about correcting the mistake of partition, not about erecting borders where none have existed for several centuries.
Presumably the first bit of today's First Ministers' meeting will just be John Swinney and Rhun ap Iorwerth casting envious glances at the Good Friday Agreement's provisions for a referendum...

In lieu of flowers they are asking for donations to Dolly’s Imagination Library, which she founded in honor of her illiterate parents. Every enrolled child gets a free book once a month addressed to them, regardless of need. Some 325 million books so far. donate.imaginationlibrary.com

You just read about her and keep thinking, surely there must be something here, she's an old lady from Tennessee, surely she, oh, no, open supporter of the trans community, backed same sex marriage before most senior Democrats did.

I don't think you can get a better measure of Dolly than how she was brought up in a house were some of her siblings couldn't read, so she set up a foundation where literally anyone could sign-up to have a curated, age-appropriate book, delivered to their children until they entered kindergarten.

Her murder is a tragedy and of course no decent person would ever have wished such harm to be done to her. It is understandable in the circumstances that people want to tread lightly on her political legacy. But that legacy was ugly, and we should be very wary of pretending it was anything else.

Ann Widdecombe, who appears to have been murdered in a horrific and contemptible act, was someone who throughout her career harmed many lives through fearmongering and dehumanising rhetoric and policy. The people who suffered because of her should not be censored by the terrible nature of her death.

Quite the day for news. Immensely glad to see justice done in this case. His victims displayed incredible courage in the most horrific of circumstances I hope there is peace for them somewhere after this.

Keir Starmer says that those destroying Belfast last night must feel the 'full force of the law. Loyalist terrorists have never felt the 'full force of the law' and never will.
