Treat your to-read pile like a river, not a bucket. “There’s no point beating yourself up for failing to clear a backlog (of unread books, undone tasks, unrealized dreams) that was always inherently unfeasible to clear in the first place.” [oliverburkeman.com]

I'm going to take a wild guess here and say that you, like me, have a large pile (or digital equivalent) of books or articles you've been meaning to get around to reading, plus maybe a long queue of podcast episodes to which you'd love to listen, if only you had the time.

Listen, if you’re not happy single, you won’t be happy in a relationship either, happiness comes from picking a new hobby and then buying all the things to start that hobby then finding the perfect little storage container for those things and then putting that storage container in the spare room

Analyst: Trajectory matters. Am I filling the glass or drinking it?
Optimist: the cup is half full

Pessimist: the cup is half empty

Datavis: it depends. Are we seeing the full height of the glass?

Family Handyman recently had a one-sheet plywood challenge, so I thought I’d share a standing desk I made a few years ago. It’s almost the same height as width, but tapered legs trick the eye so it doesn’t look like a boring square. #woodworking

Obligatory Star Wars post: when a loved one asks me to do something on a Saturday that doesn’t involve making sawdust, playing guitar, or going to the hardware store, I whine that I was going to go into Tosche Station to pick up some power converters.

When someone says „Scientists do not want you to know“ you can dismiss everything from there on. Scientists want you to know. They are desperate that you know. They can’t shut up about what they found out and want you to know.

So the oil gets an armed escort, but Americans stuck overseas are SOL.
My initial reaction to this is that it might lead to *some* additional transits but it takes time to get a program like this set up and create confidence it will actually pay out. Maybe helpful if this is a problem for months, not for the next couple weeks.

They won't start with banning birth control. First they'll lie about it. Then dictate who can prescribe it, use it, fund it, in what forms, and for how long. Suddenly, your doctor won't call you back. I know this is what they'll do because it's what they're doing to transgender healthcare right now.

I did not need to know that the oldest US Olympian is younger than me. I mean, I assumed it, but didn’t need it confirmed.
Rich Ruohonen’s current teammates weren’t alive when he first tried out for the U.S. Olympic curling team in 1987 and 1991. He missed the team eight times.

At 54, he finally made it — becoming the oldest American to compete in the Winter Games.
The oldest American in the Winter Olympics is 54: ‘I’m not the dad or the coach’
“I just get emotional talking about it because it just shows perseverance — and a little luck,” said Olympic curler Rich Ruohonen, 54.
