In case you are wondering, this is how this year's #Taiwan military drill looked like inside NTU. Yes, that in the back is a couple posing for wedding pictures #loveconquersall

One of the advantages of answering the phone with "Aló" instead of "Wei 喂" while in Taiwan is that if it is just advertisement (or even a scam) they will just hang up on you, while if they are really looking for you, they will start and continue talking, whether in Chinese or English #Foreigners

Last semester we designed proposals for an ecological park intended to promote #BiodiversityConservation and environmental stewardship. However, most focused on improving the human experience, a community garden, a foot-soaking pond; without even evaluating impact to wildlife.

Grant rejoinders: Avoid using comments from a +ve Assessor to rebut another Assessor who is more critical of aspects of your proposal. For assessors, it’s easier to say something is great than spend time detailing issues. Responses need to come from your deep knowledge of your proposal. #grants 🧪

Not all #microplastics are the same, and lumping them into a single discussion can create confusion.

Microplastics differ in size, shape, polymer composition, additives, and the contaminants they adsorb from the environment. As a result, their impacts can differ substantially.

How long have you been #composting? In Taipei I don't have a house with garden like in Peru, but I joined forces with other students and we do it in campus. #Foodwaste from the cafeteria, sawdust from the Forestry department, and vegetable plots for all of us to enjoy #recycle #waste #greencities

Across #Asia, it’s common to see #macaques around temples and hiking rest stops, ready to snatch fruit, but also packaged foods (cookies, drinks, anything inside a #plastic bag). We see them shifting to this new diet and its #waste.

During my #research I found out that porcupines are also ingesting #plastic, their feces contained a median of 2.1 #microplastics /gram. Because of the sodium deficiency in their diet they gnaw on objects like plywood resin, rubber smeared with sweat or salt, etc.

I just noticed that a word I learned during my first lessons of Mandarin when I was in Peru, mamahuhu馬馬虎虎, I actually have not used it while living in Taiwan. I use 還好 instead. I wonder what else is in those books that I don't use often in daily life.

From food wrappers to polyester fibers, everyday #plastics are easily ingested by wildlife living near us.
We measured microplastics in feces from feral cattle, water buffalo, boars, macaques, and porcupines in Hong Kong’s peri-urban areas. 85% of samples contained microplastics 😟.

Exactly!

#Recycling doesn't work, especially without caps on plastic production.

Recycling alone cannot end the plastic pollution crisis

Recycling alone cannot end the plastic pollution crisis
Recycling has been touted as a solution to combat the global plastic pollution crisis, but recycling rates of 10% are ineffective against annual plastic production of >460 million tonnes. Solutions be...
