I'm as susceptible to copium as the next guy but I am still surprised at the number of people confident about the severity of forthcoming blue wave. I'm still traumatized by Ann Selzer's 2024 Iowa poll and I haven't seen anything that suggests polling has gotten better? I hope I'm wrong, of course.

my 12 y/o is a sweet kid but his default state is bullheaded defiance when it comes to doing things he doesn’t want to and neither my wife nor I were ever like that. I have no idea how to combat it but boy is it exhausting.

this is a bit of an obsession of mine especially here in charlottesville. the cost of commercial real estate is prohibitive if you want to experiment and the city seems categorically opposed to small lots and small units that could allow people to start businesses without a huge capital investment

Calling it 'white flight' in 2026 is not right, because it's not just white people who don't want to live in a city with failing schools. It's anybody, white, black, asian, anything, who hopes for a stable future for their kids. Anybody with the $$ to do so flees those kind of school districts.
